carat springs?

does anyone know the different lengths in springs for a vanagon/carat/westifalia

the reason is i have a set of springs i want to put on my westly but if they are the same ones i really dont want to pull them out and find that out. if i could just measure these before hand i verify which ones these are.

The different size springs have different color paint marks on them so you can identify them.

Carat springs are shorter than a Westfalia, have a different spring rate, along with a different part number.

Westy springs are longer and stiffer.

I still have my stock 88 westy set out in the shed, If there not too much stuff piled on top of them I'll pull them out and measure them later on when it warms up, unless somebody beats me to the punch.

Does anybody sell an OEM-type spring for Vanagons anymore? The only ones I've seen are Weitec & H&R (lowering) and syncro.org and GoWesty (lifting).

Even though they're rusted, you may be able to find the paint marks if you take the springs out and clean them up. That's the only way I could find my marks. They're very hard to see. I have an 89 Westy that has brown springs in the front and bluse springs on the rear. That's consistant with the chart. Clean the springs well and you might find some paint marks. According to this chart, the front springs for Carat and Camper were the same. I don't know if you can tell much by measuring the length of the spring, they could have very different spring rates but be the same size. I know that the Syncro.Org springs are close to stock, based on the measurements from my van, and should level you out at 17" ride height.

According to the Brick Yard, the springs are as follows:

Front Springs:

Blue=Normal
Brown= Carat, Camper, Ambulance
Green=Increased payload
Yellow=30mm lower than normal
Violet=Syncro

The rear spring colors are as follows.

Yellow=Yellow - Normal and for increased payload or heavy duty shocks
Brown=Ambulance (UK)
Blue=Passenger vans
Green=30mm lower
2X green=Syncro

Do you know the length of the Syncro springs? It's my understanding that they're actually shorter than 2wd springs. Is that true?

The spring color chart is a great tool, thanks for looking that up and posting it.

At the same time, how can my 85 Westy have the infamous nose-up attitude that 85 Westy's have if the spring length/rate are the same year-to-year??

It's not rear-end sag, either, it 's good old nose up in the air snooty 85 Westy attitude!!!

Shouldn't I have the same "blue stripe" springs as listed above, same as every other year??

(currently about 1/2 a country away from my van, or else I'd just go look)

As said earlier, the color stripes are small and very hard to see. I was only able to find them after taking out the springs and cleaning them. Then they were barely visible.

i measured mine and they are 235 rear and 275 front looks like maybe and aftermarket lowering set?

If they are black, they are probably the CIP1 springs. Toss them in the trash if they are.
