I have a 69' SQB the body is rough (RUST) so I purchased a 68' body, no pan/chassis. Anybody know what kind of work is entailed for this swap? Any suggestions/comments are more than welcome! THANKS!!!

It should be a pretty much straight bolt on. A lot of work, but all the mountings are the same.
One thing, you will have to add the rear engine hanger mounts from the 69, to the 68 body.

It rains like hell anywhere in Texas but the western part. Houston is a swamp. Dallas and parts north run 75-80% humidity year round. I was stunned how fast things rust in North Texas. Ray

I whole heartidly agree with that statement... My rocker panels are swiss cheese and various other parts of the car. I really and truly have no desire to swap the bodies, but looking at the condition of mine vs. the 68... the 68 seems a better option.

Does it matter in the swap that my 69 is an auto and the 68 I believe was a manual? Thanks -

The manual/automatic should not be a problem. The differences there are in the chassis, not the body.

Ok... so aside from adding the engine hanger mounts to the 68 body, it should be a straight forward swap?
I understand that I am to disconnect the steering column, wiring, etc... how many bolts am I looking for and where abouts are they. I apologize for all of the stupid questions and I fully expect sarcastic answers, but I have not torn into this effort yet. Shocked

My '68 manual body is sitting on a '72 auto pan.

How bad is the pan on the '69? If it needs work, I would suggest fixing it while the body is off. It's wayyyyyy easier!

The pan is in bad shape!!! I will need to replace vs repair the pans... I guess we shall see how well this goes. Maybe I can document my work with photos/video for future morons like myself that would like to swap bodies!

When you really get right down to it, a body swap isn't any harder than doing a body off resto. I only say that, because you've still got to remove the body from the pan. The number of bolts and stuff has been covered a few times, so itmight be worth doing a search. As for repairing, or replacing pans, you could do a search for that as well, as it's been covered a few times as well. I know I should have pics in my gallery, and Russ had some of his t-34 ghia posted also. I think I've even got them in a thread I started back in 07 called "Tear down has started", showing the old floors cut out, and then the replacement pieces tacked in, and finally welded. The search function is your friend here, and it'll help you out a bunch with these cars. Wink
Here's one of the links I was mentioning.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=240540 -tear down
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=249390 -been busy working
The second one is the build up of the car being torn down in the first thread. I hope this helps.
