Ok... here it was.

My first splitbus... I got it for $600 in 99'.

And here it is now.

It's been recycled... it's his first bus now, and he KNOWS he earned it. Several years ago he spotted the Westy I now drive from the roadside; he was a little more than five then.

Any how... that's a different story, I recently struck a real good deal with a good friend of mine,(Mike). And as everyone knows well enough, yesterday was the first day of Christmas vacation... we took advantage of the free time.

Here are some pictures of what the two of us did yesterday and today.

Yesterday, we cleared a path, tore down a fence, got the bus ready to tow to the shop, and then put the fence back up; this morning we hooked up the tow-bar, and towed it away.

We got it safely to the shop, unbolted the tow-bar, and found a spot for it to spend the Holidays in.

Needless to say... the kid's face was priceless.

Full paint and body, code colors inside and and out... with no hurry for me. I have all next year to keep it indoors and re-assemble it at my own pace.

I may have questions about these paint codes, and I will most likely have others if I have any difficulty finding the info myself... but this isn't necessary for now. This post is mainly for documentation, for the boy to look over later, (and brag), and for my personal enjoyment as well Very Happy . I will add to this thread as it develops.

Thanks for looking.

I know the feeling. My teenage son and I did a transmission job yesterday. (No, it's not a Bus, but making him do the work was a great learning experience):

What an great thing to do. My daughter thinks buses are too "hippie". I've told her, wait until she sees the attention she will get from driving one. Thankfully I have 10+ years till then. Pray

I saw the pic in the gallery first and almost thought you were hauling the Bus to the recyclers, I'm glad your not doing that. My Dad had all of us kids including my sister fix up a old VW for our first car. 20 years and i dont know how many VW's later I am still doing it. Looks like a super Bus to start with. Good thing you are doing , Have fun!!

I consider myself to be "Green" but to send a bus in this condition, and with this much significance, to a scrapyard would be unconscionable. I would never forgive myself. I've been dragging this bus with me for five years, three moves, two other kids, and a divorce... waaayy worth the bullshit to watch this kid of mine bust his ass all day to get behind the wheel. The initiative that he has shown has made his old man happier than when he got the divorce Cool

Thanks for the support guys...

Busryder Jr.:I am soo happy that I have my own bus now, yay! Very Happy it's just extra cool that this was my dad's first split!

Ok Genital Men... I have an update.

I bought a 67 Deluxe yesterday for the wheel wells that it sported; only thing... I ended up with much more than I expected when the deal was "shook on" for this salvage piece Cool .

Here are the wells:
The old ones...

The new ones...

All else that WE need is the front beam.. the rest will be recycled in the same fashion as the first... but in pieces.

Work on the 65' should start shortly after the donor bus arrives at the shop and gets under the knife.

And it's thirty miles away from us.
Again guys, thanks for the support and encouragement...

My little guy loves helping papa work on the bus. He rolls the sockets down the driveway just out of reach. Two years old is a trial, you guys are on the next level with teenagers. Have fun with the kids and the cars!

"passenger panic bar" Laughing Thats hilarious, but makes sense. Reminds me of a thing my 8 yr old niece and I do when we go for bus cruises on the steep, winding roads up here in the mountain foothills where we live. When we come to a sharp corner, we scream "AAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!", and then start laughing. Good times.
