What are the differences between a late split decklid and an oval one? Besides the big spring?

The one that came with my zwitter and the 57 one I have are the same 'cept for the spring bracket... and the signs of welding around the spring mount on the zwitter one... Anyone have a pic handy of the license plate light hole for the correct zwitter decklid?

You didn't say zwitter. A zwitter lid is identical to that of a 55. The only difference between an Oct 52-55 lid and a 56-57 lid is the spring bracket.

thanks for the info. I forget that zwitters don't always qualify as late splits around here.

It is not that. It is, that the term "late split" is too vague.
Splits were made from 1938 to 1953. That is 15 years. A Sept 52 car could be called a "late split" since it was built about 14½ years into this 15 year period.
