Door hinge - Broken weld

Alright folks... Got another one for ya! I removed my passenger door from my square knowing that the bottom hinge weld was broken, but now what? I have a donor car (68' square) with perfect doors and hinges. Question is how to make the swap with the least amount of headache...

As you can see by the photos... the hinge is pretty much jacked! No idea how the PO did this, but nevertheless... what's done is done. Thanks for any help! [/img]

Use the edge of a grinder and start working at the welds.
Then, you should be able to weld the donor one on.

How might I go about removing the donor hinge from the post of the donor car? The nature of the hinge plate being so thin, makes it kind of hard to envision how to get them off without destroying them! Thanks...

Cut the donor hinge piece a little big, the grind the metal away from the back side. Kind of the reverse of the old broken piece you want to remove (gring it away) Once you've both portions clean, fit it into place, and tack weld it. Use your new donor door to help fit it in place. Then pull the door off, and stitch weld the new hinge in place, and paint it, so it won't rust. You can even use some 3M weld thru coating before actually welding the donor part on. I hope this helps.

Alright folks... I worked on getting the old hinge off yesterday and this is what I ended up with.

I have no earthly idea how I will get the donor hinge off of the frame without entirely destroying it, seeing as getting this portion of the hinge off was a NIGHTMARE!!!

The only thing I can think of is like BobNotch said, to cut around the hinge and grind down the metal behind the hinge.

If anyone out there has experience with doing this, please let me know before I completely destroy my donor hinge. Thanks...

I would recomend a multi layered sanding disk on an angle grinder. Get one in the 60-80 grit range. It will make short work of grinding the back side of the old hinge off. It also leaves a nice surface to weld to. I just used (2) of these to remove all the metal off the back of the seat brackets I am swapping out from a donor pan. Thet sanding disks are a bit pricey ($10 a pop at HD or Lowes, but Harbor Freight sells them for $5 each).
