who has a tach on their ghia? what kind? where did you mount it. how does it hook up? would you change to a different kind if it were free?

In my 66 (large clock) convertible, I sent my clock into North Hollywood Speedometer and had them convert it into a 6,000 rpm tach that matches the original speedo. It was spendy, but matches perfectly. I had originally planned on using a 914 tach, but I was concerned about it not matching due to the black bezel and red needle.

In my 69 (small clock) coupe, I removed the clock and enlarged the hole to fit a 3 3/8" VDO Series 1 tach. With a chrome bezel and white needle, the Series 1 gauges are a reasonable match to factory VDO gauges.

As far as hooking it up, I ran a wire from the negative terminal of the coil, through the hole in the firewall to the rear quarter panel interior, under the driver's side door sill plate, and up to the dash.

It is an AutoMeter Tach,

Hopefully, I'll get the parts that to put the engine in this weekend and see how it works.

Converted my clock using a SunPro tach. Works ok for what it is. I don't like Autometer, and VDO's tachs didn't match my speedo exactly how I wanted, so I had the face made.

This was in my old 74. The speedo is from a 78 or 79 Super, and the tach was a Porsche 912. A 914 tach fits right in the stock hole. Had to do some rewiring, but using the Bug speedo gives you all the idiot lights you lose in the Ghia's clock, plus a fuel gauge. If you paint the needle white, it looks like it's always been there.

Her's mine. It's just a 2 1/6" VDO cockpit style with a chrome bezel. My car never had the stock gauges, so I think these look good. Porsche speedo, all with chrome bezels. I now have an old Blaupunkt raido to match also. Very Happy

got a "SUPER PREMIUM" tach from local auto pts. store $30. got it mounted and the light doesn't work i believe because the inline circuit invader clamp did not make contact. back to my termination kit tomorrow. i tested it at the rear of the ghia but have not tested it after installation. pics tomorrow.

I just bought this from HF. Its cheap but it does fit in the dash(clock or gas). I bought it for a test stand that I'm building and I noticed it would fit in the dash.

drove to car show today and got to see my new tach work. i had been afraid that i had been over revving. i have been peaking at about 4k according to the speeds at which i shifted when really getting on it. here is the pic of the mount. yep! i screwed it to the bottom of my ash tray. i can see it just fine and it's out of the way. ain't it fun?

yep! i screwed up the pic post. tried to add it from photobucket and it didn't work so i posted it in the gallery. in 3 years or more i've never been successful in posting a pic to this site.
