According to Velvetgreen (above), if they were outfitted by Martin Walter they would not have them. Only if they came with a westy interior. So if SO-42s did not need belly pans that means my interior is most likely incorrect?

If you re-read the first page, you'll realize that Major Woody was talking about "regular" pop-top So-42's. All dormobiles had belly pans, the only exception I've seen to this is if the bus was taken to dormobile by an end user. |

I see a white steering lock cover... Is the steering lock white as well?
Is the white the colour of the steering wheel?

i know that Christian Figenshou (sp) aka "Fig" on the samba has an OG martin walter dormobile w/o belly pans...

That's odd, I see a white steering lock cover too and I know it's black. It must have been laying around when I was spraying something else white.  It's been cleaned since then and back to black.

That's odd, I see a white steering lock cover too and I know it's black. It must have been laying around when I was spraying something else white. It's been cleaned since then and back to black. |
Maybe it's just the reflection?

After going through the list of M codes on this site I'm still a little confused about a couple things: #430 "North American export package including M20, M24, M25, M90, M175, M620, M621" and no letters in the last line meaning it was a "German delivered vehicle". ??? I also found out it's a Kombi... The things you never knew. Any insight would be much appreciated! Any way to find out if they turned this Kombi into a Dormobile?

I had a true "Martin Walter" Dormobile that was equipped with belly pans. I have also had one without. I have owned 5 Dormobiles in varying states over the years. Obviously they came both ways but the difference may be that some were ordered by MW's Dormobile for their conversion, and some were brought to Dormobile to be converted by customers. You can still bring your bus there and they will install a new Dorm top on your bus.
Two of my MW's Dormobiles were ship coded for Belgium

Very similar to yours. I believe mine was bought in Germany by
a G.I. and was ordered with the US stuff because he was planning on shipping it home. GI's could ship their cars via the army home for next to nothing. This still happens today. I saw a GI driving a corvette
last year in Germany, and my neighbor in Germany owns a ex GI's 66
mustang convertible!
The So-42 Dormobile from Pacific NW was also a titan red biege grey color..
I believe the blue cot fabric is Split only, haven't seen it in a bay just red plaid in them. Anyone got info on this?
I believe most westys are built from kombi's.
Bastardbus(Todd) would know more. He is a westy guru!
Curious if your icebox has a propane unit in it to make it into a fridge, as mine does. I also noticed your curtain rod? for behind the front seat.
Mine has a og curtain that snaps to the wood and sides by coat hooks in this area no rod.
Mine has curtain rods across the whole front of the bus as well.

Yes that looks like what I'd expect for your Dormobile.
This is the M-code plate for my '65 So-42 Dormobile.
The special paint code (523xxx) usually means it was a westy.

That's crazy! There's someone else who says this is their birthday bus!
While it does have a nice M-code plate, I won't brag as it is not living up to its potential. It needs some rust and collision repair and is in project condition. I'd love if it was in the condition of that red/white 67.
Talking of which, is there plaid upholstery under those white seat covers in the back?

No, I took the yellowish vinyl covers off when I made the new ones. It looks like the plaid covers are replacements too... was plaid upholstry an option from the factory?

Mine came with the plaid yellow as well.
But was recovered in yellow mustard vinyl. I still
have alittle of this fabric underneath it.

No propane unit for my ice box, although I wish I had one. If i could actually find one, where would it mount? Does your water tank have a manual pump on it? My original top for the ice box had a one but I could never get it to work.
I removed the curtain track that wrapped around the front (over the windows) when I repainted the interior but never put it back in because I didn't have any parts to it. Only a few runners in it with nothing to attach a curtain to.

The propane unit for the ice box is mounted right behind it. Very narrow.
The cold coils are inside the unit.
The water tanks go in the middle cabinet at the bottom. Two jugs
with one attached via a hose to the pump .
The pump unit should be the whale. Made in Ireland!!
The curtain track in the front of the bus, you can buy sliders
for them at any fabric store for the curtains to attach.
The other curtain I spoke of, between the front seat and the cabinets runs
straight across and was a optional curtain to buy. Via
the Westy accessory for sale items.
Does anyone have their og hanging lamp?? Curious if
it was the same as the earlier version.

its weird that there are two 191's which means what ?belly pans, right but why two?
the interior when i got it was rotted, there was wood paneling but no rear seats tables etc. i tore all of it out except for the roof headliner support wood pieces. the color of my front seat is gray (salt and pepper) and i have a bed cushon the same color in the back hatch area. also i have all but one side window curtains which are also th same color.
i have no clue if its a so42 or a walter martin. i do have alot of tent poles for it, but no tent cavas
what do yall think? so 42 or walter martin? |

Hi I am interested in the yellow plaid fabric for this. Are there any companies recreating this style plaid ?
Also what would the front seat be covered in ? Plaid or a solid color ? |
