$10 says it really isn't a "Sears" battery, but made by someone else and branded as Sears. Check the specs against other well known batteries and see. Although I didn't buy an optima, I can remember looking around and seeing a battery at Costco that was exactly the same shape, etc as an optima... _________________ 87 Westy, 250k GW 2.4 - 2.0 , 16" wheels |

I got the big sears deep cycle battery about 5 years ago, seems to be just fine. It's huge and heavy, but does what its supposed to. |

If you want real storage and a real deep cycle battery, get a lead acid deep cycle. The AGM and Gel batteries can't compare and aren't "true" deep cycle. I got a Trojan 110 AH battery and it far outperforms the optima batteries I've had in the past. Do some internet research and you'll find the same answers I'm sure. |

I would second the Trojans if you have room for them. Our AW had 2 of them connected together under the rear seat. I don't remember the AH capacity but the fridge would run for about a week in the summer. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

AGM and gel are also lead-acid. You mean a normal wet, flooded lead-acid. I have never read that AGM are worse than flooded. Do you think you could find a reference?

Optima batteries are junk now. They used to be good but the company was bought and they are now outsourced and cheap with inferior components. _________________ 1986 Vanagon Westfalia EJ25

I like mine
Ruined a Yellowtop and an Odyssey by running them down... they were under warranty but shipping is expensive. You're never too far from a Sears and the warranty is good. _________________ Tennessee Sombrero

Anyone with a suggestion of a good deep cycle battery that will fit in the stock driver's seat battery box?
I haven't had much luck finding a Group 41 sized deep cycle battery. _________________ '86 Wolfy Westy Weekender

I hear they are really limiting the warranty on tools. Not sure if that has anything to do with the warranty of their batteries, but it's worth taking note. _________________ '69 Mike

The best "bang for your buck" in deep cycle batteries are golf cart batteries. They are 6 volt. You wire two in series to get 12 volts (golf carts wire six in series to get 36 volts). Two six volt golf cart batteries wired in series will provide about 220 amp hours @ 12 volts. http://www.electric-cars-are-for-girls.com/6-volt-golf-cart-battery.html |

Usually you can find them online from as low as $35-$42 each.....and there are some brans that go as high as $65-$75 each
I found one, same size, with 26AH each... so times 4= 108AH under the seat....but they're more expensive....at $85.

I'd highly suggest Amazon.com, I just got new SLA batteries for my electric bicycle, smaller than you'd really want for an aux setup, but it was by far the cheapest place I could find things, and I spent several days and many hours exploring options. Of course check the brand first, but there was a very good selection, and cheaper than from other outlets. _________________ '74 Bug - Gone
