|
|
I've seen a few recent posts on the power locks, and lots more through searches, but nothing so far that explains...
...on my bus, if I lock the passenger door from the outside with the key, all doors lock. However, locking any other door with the key does NOT lock the other doors.
So, it's not supposed to be that way, right? If locking all doors from one door was the intent, it would make sense to me for it to be the driver's door...
With all the issues with power accessories, I imagine it's a problem with wiring but I don't understand how the systems work, I guess, as I don't get why the power locks actually work on all doors, but only when 'activated' from the passenger door.
Any insights?
Secondly, I want to do the keyless mod; primarily as with doing that, I wouldn't need to walk over to the passenger door to lock/unlock all doors. But there's also the cool factor too. Remote start would be even cooler but not sure that's really worth it.
So related to that, how involved is installing such devices? I've seen a couple write-ups, including VWLOVR's excellent detail... I'd really rather not get into taking off door panels as mine are fragile enough (can o' worms) but if any such mod will require this, then may as well dig into first problem above, as well as maybe even fix the panels...
Does the GoWesty kit require opening the panels? All do? If all, then I'll likely go for the quoted Valet 712T for half the price of the GoWesty one...
Thanks!

From my limited experiene with 'central locking' on the Westfalia, I'd say:
1. Central locking works from 3 of the 4 doors - it does not operate from the rear hatch.
2. If one power wire is broken to one of the 2 other locking motor mechanisms, it could be the cause of your problem.
Great system when it works. |

Mine locks/unlocks all four only from the driver's or passenger's door. I think that is how it's supposed to work. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburger

Yeap, GoWesty's page:
http://www.gowesty.com/library_article.php?id=314
verifies only driver and passenger doors ('masters') unlock all (slider and hatch being 'slaves'). Also an understandable explanation of the auto-phantom lock/unlock problem.
But I still don't understand how the passenger door is lock/unlocking all doors, but the driver door won't do any. Must be a yellow/white wire issue, I guess? Either way, installing a keyless system would seem to be an easy fix (until whatever is broken, breaks more) if I tap it into the passenger door as a primary - if that's how it works...
But seems like I'll have to pull the door panels...? I hope not! The GoWesty writeup link above doesn't say it's needed. Maybe I'll shoot them an email...
Thanks! Any other insights appreciated.

You don't have to pull the door panels. I put my keyless system in behind the glove box. Works great. |

Great! Just what I wanted to read. This goes for any system? Not just the GoWesty one? If so, I'll do that valet system for half the cost....
...as soon as I have the time to do it!
Happy New Year!

The Valet 712T is excellent, cheap and easy to wire in behind glove box.
No panel removal is necessary, if all locks are working properly.
My system was about $43, on line 1 1/2 ago. _________________ It's all in your mind.
