Thanks to all with tips for my trip. It turned out to be a great journey. Last minute addition of my mom with her motor home kept us on paved roads most of the time, but we did manage to stay in NP and State Campgrounds each nigh despite no reservations.

As you can see, the bus is very hard to see due to blending in so well with surrounding colors. Rolling Eyes

Day 1= fresno to vegas. Met up with mom/grandma and she watched our kid while grown ups went out and had fun.
Day 2 = Zion NP
Did the shuttle tour into the canyon after camp was set....pics are from drive out next morning.

Bryce was our coldest night, but thanks to Red Neck Heating Industries, we were toasty warm...

Wife was happy while outside thanks to loaned sub-zero snow suit (thanks Jay!)

It's good to take time to write in your journal/draw a picture. (our daughter watched 1 video the entire trip and it was prior to bed time and fell asleep 1/2 way through)

First time at the Grand Canyon. WOW. I have backpacked all over the western US and have seen many a splendid view, but this was incredible.
Sorry no Bus pic, just one of your author...

The camp ground at Grand Canyon said full on the sign, but we pulled in for a look-see anyways. In the parking lot was an 84 transporter. Turns out it belongs to the ranger at the check in window. We mad some Vanagon small talk and he did me a solid and got me and moms motor home in for the night. If you are on here Mr. Ranger...thanks!
Ended up the last night in Laughlin, NV for a shower and buffet action.

Bus ran great. No problems. I cant say enough about what a pleasure the Subaru Conversion is and how much I like driving the westy with the extra power.

Wife said "best trip yet"

Happy wife = happy me!

Congrats on your great trip and all the miles you and your family covered in your Westy. Hooray for your happy wife and your self! Wink lol We are planning a major trip from Chicago Land to Yellow Stone next year in our GL. Not a camper at all, but we have 3 kids and a DVD player for the van!

Great pictures. I would like to do a similar trip with my '87 Westy. I'm not sure how the stock 2.1 would be handle the mountain climbs.

Good treat for us SAMBA people (your trip photos).

Be safe.

Heater unit was pulled out of a wrecked camper. I mounted it in the wood box I pulled out of a trash pile. Thermostat sits inside of bus and plugs into 2nd battery fuse box. I used an old BBQ regulator and my curent BBQ propane tank. A little bulky, but @$60 total, it works as good as a $700+ propex and does not take up space when I dont camp in cold weather....
