|
|
The PZ foglight have been unavailable for a few years now. I have seen a couple of used sets come up every now and then for $$$, some of which have cracked or starred lenses. I am trying to track down a source for replacement lenses, either OEM Hella or another of similar dimensions. I have emailed Projekt Zwo and received this response:
Dear Mr. Otiswesty,
Thank you for your enquiry.
The fog lights for the Vanagon Type II T3 are
unfortunately not available any more.
Our supplier Hella does not produce them any more.
It has been Hella number 1NB 119 916-007.
Kind regards
projektzwo GmbH&Co.KG
Gabriele Schuster
Anyone with info on these lights or if you know of a vehicle that used the same foglight, post it up here!

When I looked into it for the lights I had I found Hella doesn't make them anymore either. Have you checked Ebay or Van Cafe who used to sell them? |

Just the Hella fog light not the black housing. The light was a special shallow sealed lamp that is no longer made.

I am pondering making a mold and making some, problem is finding a shallow light to go in.
These have long been out of production. They were simple ABS plastic probably vacuum formed.
I picked up a mint set for a hefty price. _________________ 1990 Vanagon

OK, so here's a question. First; a disclaimer. I realize this might offend a few purists.
What's to keep from cutting into the sheet metal right behind where the light sits to allow for a deeper pot? Pardon my ignorance, there might be a perfectly good reason structurally why this cant be cut into. My thinking was to install a full width euro-style lower grill, with a set of fogs behind it.... thats what the ottienger lights do they are smaller in size but loads deeper so you have to cut bodywork , but replacements are harder to find than the projekt zwo ones |

No need to cut the body. Better to cut the bulbholder's lens off of the rear reflector part and use an adhesive to attach a new lens from a different light with a similar lens shape.
The question is then, which light to use that has a similarly shaped lens?

Has anybody talked to Daniel Stern? He seems to be pretty on-the-ball about getting hold of interesting parts.

I tried to email the info to him but it did not work and I am not sure the email address is correct.
Here's what I tried: [email protected]
A phone number for Daniel Stern Lighting is 866-861-8668. I left a message, hopefully he will have some insight on this issue. Given his reputation, I have high hopes. _________________ 1978 Sage Green P22 Westfalia

Sorry I haven't had a chance to check into this yet. Here are my notes so far...
The biggest problem with the Hella lights that Projektzwo used are - they actually touch the back of the plastic housing and the housing is sandwiched right up close to the front of the Vanagon trapping in heat. This causes the plastic on the housing to get all heat distorted - not the optimum set up.
The other bummer is that the plastic housing is used as the back cover for the lights and this really doesn't seal all that well. It is very, very limited for adjusting up, down or in any direction. You basically mount up the housings with the lights in and go. Best scenario would be to have the lights solidly mounted like my PIAAs bolted to something metal and have the plastic housing just go over and around the light instead of being a mount for the light.
The Hella lights used are less then stellar in actual light output due the old design. Of course, I don't have a lighting problem on the front... But, I would like to upgrade or make better fog lights. HIDs would be awesome.
Someone should get a mold made of these old Projectzwo housings and re-design with new style of lighting in mind.
You can see in this photo the plastic is wavy due to overheating by the Hella bulb.

Possibly a Porsche 944 fog light [think OE fog lights] might fit in this location space ? or the housing can be re-designed to fit around these. The good part about the Porsche 944 fog lights, they have build-in adjusters. Although, they might be too big. I've owned two Porsche 944s... hmmm, I'll have to dig into this more too.
