i have this bumper on my rear and a straight uncut one on the front...
and i want to do a brush guard/pre-runner deal
any help?

I'm confused as to what kind of help you are asking for.
Do you want to trade your current bumpers for prerunner/brush guard, modify them, or just buy some prerunner bumpers and or a brush guard? |

There are a number of front push bars for the stock Thing bumper. One of them was a dealer option. See below this option from the 1973 Thing options brochure

nooooo i have a uncut bumper no holes nothing on the front no tow holes things...
and the rear has the tow holes... but also muffler holes and no key hole.... im saying i want to use the thing shops prerunner/ brush graud but it looks like it needs the front bumper to have some square hole with a big rod in the middle...

| I have seen folks remove a damaged bumper beam from the mounts and ends and weld a new section of channel steel as a new beam. They often come out very nice. |

no it was to dark outside to take pics so i grabed one out of the gallery but i dont have this type of bumber so im wondering why i dont...

well after five, or ten, or twelve, or fifteen owners, shit happens....
we're talking about 35 and 36 year old vehicles here, not a $10,000 Nissan Versa to can buy right now.
Did the previous owner guarantee you the car he sold you had all its OEM equipment?

Welding and/or drilling holes to attach a brush guard is not a crime, especially on a car that is pink and holds together with straps...
So I guess you can attach whatever brush guard you want, don't be shy...

hey now it takes a man to drive a pink car held together with duck tape and straps... hood flying up is a bad experience so i dont want to even have that chance again... the latch is gone....
well thanks i guess thats what i'll do...
just worried that bumpers like that are rare or special...

| If it were me, before I worried about all the pre-runner stuff I'd concentrate on a new hood latch and cable. That red cargo strap really clashes with the pink. |

its flashy orange... i have the front verco one that works great but im keeping tools and parts in there now so the strap has to be used... hood is also bent upwards.... might just use some hood pins...

Yes they are rare (a Thing is sort of rare these days), and special as Thing only parts. BUT, yours don't seem to be in perfect shape. Anyway, if you don't want to ruin them, remove and fab, or have fabricated a custom front bumper, prerunner style, out of tubes, welded on a square metal section, bolted to the 4 big bolts of the front beam. That's what I did. The front beam is a much stronger part to attach a bumper than the inner front valance. This way, you can store your OG bumper and keep it untouched to go back to stock one day. But like Captain' said, fix that hood latch and cable first...

If you are worried about the chance of the hood coming up again then again... I would worry about the hood latch before I worry about bumpers... I'm sure that a latch is relatively cheap... probably less than those straps!

okay well i final made my tube bumber... freee so its good enough for me...
now the hard part and the problem is my bumper brackets are shot the bolts and nut in them have broke the welds and just turn... had to troch the nuts off... anyone seen how fast bondo burns...

i was thinking knock the old one s off and weld a nut inside like those and just weld the whole thing back up would that work?
and how do i get it off?
and i made this new bumper brackets think they look nice?
