I am thinking about buying a post 71 Westy and am leary about it because of expensive engine parts. I have had several w/ type 1 engines, and several w/ type 2 engines. I had never got much into the type 2's b/c I really didn't keep them that long. Know the type 1's pretty well. Question is: How big of a project is it to swap a 1600dp into a bus that has a type 2 plant in it. Mostly I am looking for mounting, throtle cable routing, parts exchange, etc. Will the power brake booster present a football game? Overall, how much effort does it entail. I know I can figure it out but I don't want to get involved in something that will be a huge hasstle. A little insight would be grateful. Thanks
PEACE, Pass It On!!! Jeremy

this is the conversion into an earlier bus but you will get the picture.

http://www.dolphinsci.com/typeIV.html

this one deals with converting the engine to what you need

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/2691/type_4.html

and the "type2" engine you are refering to is called the type 4. all busses up untill 1972 had the type 1 engine(a.k.a. bug engine) and 1972 and on had the type 4 engine.
later
lc

oopss i just reread your post, you want to do the opposite of what i stated here, sorry. i have a typ 4 motor and i find it more interesting to work on than the bug motor, not to mention the increaes amont of pull i get out of it on accelleration.

Bolt in swap. Get a '71 bus or auto stick manifold center section or weld in a length of 1/2" conduit to your manifold for the vacuum port, fabricate some tin around the motor to keep the cooling air in and you're ready fot flight although the gearing differences don't exactly showcase the torque band of the 1600. Get a sweet running injected 2.0L motor and enjoy it!!
Good luck,
Gordi
