I did nothing today, yeah, that's it, I'll say it, I passed by the van about 5 times today and did nothing, nothing. I have a long list of things to do in the van but not today. Instead, I looked at the van and said to myself "damn, that's a hot van". Wink

Spring Cleaning. I love how Bronze Beige Metallic hides seam rust (for now, anyway):

I should say that this happened last week, Thursday.

A friend is going to crush a 91, but not until a hoard of VW nuts came over and ripped the VW apart. Nothing is left, not a crumb. I think a bolt was left in the grass. Even cut skin out of it.

I have scars to prove it.

Today? the hum drum drive to work and back forth. Plus looking at the rust that this past Winter did.

Felt buyers remorse when I opened the big box my new cold start valve came into today. $182 (Bosch; shipped; a decent price) for THAT little thing?

I took 15 minutes to replace it.

I hope to see not only better cold starts but mileage as well (it was leaking).

Also, installed a new cranking battery and ordered an Odyssey PC2000 today and hope to put it in on Thursday.

Sheesh....the cold start valve, the one that fits my vehicle as well is $123.90 at Auto Hause Arizona and since the total purchase was over $50.00 they offer free shipping.

For parts..you cant beat the prices at Arizona, check them out for further parts purchases.

Thanks, RCB. I'll check them out next time I am in need of parts. After a websearch, I used BW Distributors (they also do used parts) here in Cali. Perhaps I wasn't searching enough, as seeing Autohause's price would have saved me $40 Sad

Tax, too.

I thought I was getting a pretty good deal, at $160. But, tax and S/H took it to $180. Oh well, live and learn. At least I got it the next day (not that I asked for next day; BW is in Cali, like me, and shipped regular UPS).

Its been hot here (90s) and I want it to get cold again at night - below 40. I want to go out and fire it up just because....

Ive done quite a bit of business with B&W Dismantlers in Roseville. Jeff is a very knowledgeable person to deal with.
At one time they were the ones to go to for air-cooled parts for Westys/Vanagons. Now ...I think they pretty much dropped the air-cooled stuff....at least the older stuff, Ive got an 82 Westy-California model
Ive gotten Air flow meters and ECU's and wire harnesses from them but I didnt know they sold newer parts as well.
Thankx for the heads-up

I cried today

as I handed over $380 for a refit of the steel crossover coolant pipe Sad Mine had rusted through where the small hose comes of it, as well as in the main pipe, near that small TEE piece. The only consolation I guess is that it is an original VW piece, and possibly saved me a roadside failure during our planned 13,000 km trip next week.

Yes, I popssibly could have done it, but not lying in the 6 inches of snow that fell today!
