I have a '74 Westy, bought it as a rolling shell. Pretty sure it is a deluxe (although no windows or trim, so not absoluetly sure) becuase it has a drain hole for a fridge behind the front passenger seat.

Anyway, it has holes in the passenger side battery tray. I was wondering what would have mounted there. Here is the pic.

Have some body work to do (not too much) then gonna paint it and re-assemble it (new seals, etc.) to get it on the road. I have a standard camper interior. Not sure if I will install the standard kit, or make something custom. Long way to go before I make that decision though.

they are for a gas heater. the larger hole is for the exhaust pipe, the smaller one for the combustion air pipe. you'll find some other evidence of the gas heater in other places of your bus.

Looks like a gas heater to me, but how did you get your hands on a right hand drive bus in Detroit?

Doh, I'm an idiot Busdaddy. Thanks for the responses!

That is the left hand side, which is (of course) the driver's side. Rough weekend I guess.

The bus does show the mcode for a gas heater. I thought it would be the BA6, under the bus belly one. I guess not.

That would have been the BN4 then?

Yes, 74 was the last year for BN-4 as the standard heater option.
