Jake,
take a look at those books you have and try to piece together a timeline for me.
Im interested as to rather otto swapped the plates back and forth and didnt care and they both ran at the same time. OR did he use most of one of his Gmund coupes to build this racer. OR did he get rid of the Gmund car and only have the plate left, then he ran that plate on the car.
Cause if you look at this pic, this gmund coupe sports that plate. Id like to know how this all played out.

hmmm I didnt even notice that T 2222 plate on his Gmund.

In this picture (which appears to be very old) there seems to be a dot between the first and second 2..I doubt this is much significance, but it is a *fourth* plate shown on these 60K10's

all thre 60K10's were built I believe in '39...well before the 356 came out. It is said that the 60K10 was the 'first' porsche and spawned the 356 in the late 40's. I am guessing that Mathe took the plate off his 60K10 and put it on his Gmund. He bought his 60K10 in '49 I think, although it could have been a couple years earlier.

Im sure someone of much more knowledge will set us straight here.

LOL. AIM rules. i feel like a retard after i posted this, knowing the car was KDF era stuff, and the Gmunds came late 40s. the plate still interests me.

The three Berlin Rom racers were not built at one time, each one has subtil differences. Each car also had changes over time. During the war they were used as test mules for all kinds of things, unfortunately there was very little documentation of the tests and changes. the front ends of the body work was also changed on the dark car at least once. Very little seems to be known of the work on the engine, or the final power. The Mathe car had a later engine in it at his death, and the speedo was a later version (based on some fotos I have) Mathe swapped the steering from one side to the other because of his lame arm. He also pulled the big long range racing gas tank, to get leg room when he swapped the driving side over. As far as the Mathe car, I think the last built, ended up withe first car's chassis, after it was wrecked by Lafferentz (not by Ley as originally noted here).

The car could have any number of plates, since in Austria, even in the late 60s and 70s the owner of the car owned the plate and with proper insurance could put it on any car he owned, ie the plate went with the owner and insurance, not the car.
The "T" on the plate meant Tirol, the province where Mathe lived. The "." between the first two 2s I think is simply how the plate was attached to the grill.

{I think that the UTUBE film clip is of the new copy not the Mathe car. Again I THINK I don't know for sure.}

Have since learned that the copy is not roadworthy ie just a body, so I am wrong the UTube is the original car

The typ 60 went right up to the late 1960s as the standard model with cable brakes. Its the pans the changed the most. if you exclude the front and rear suspension.

Or get a kubel chassis.

What two books were going for $1000, and $2500 ???
