It IS a simple bolt on attachment.
And a jaw dropping improvement in front end suspension performance...worth 10x what they cost IMO.

OK, maybe it's more like kool-aid that I'm showin' ya .
Not sure how best to answer your question...but here goes:
Firmer than the Bilstein HDs that they replaced. Not as dramatic a firming up as the Sensa Tracs had on the rear. The Sensa Tracs compared to Bilstein HDs firmed up the front suspension more than did GW springs compared to syncro.org springs. These shocks are spec'd for Ford F-150s if that helps.
More info...I'd been thinking of getting an Addco front sway bar to firm up the front...not thinking that way anymore...really want to keep the comparatively high independent wheel articulation that the stock bar allows for off-road use...but wanted less body roll in high speed turns on-road...didn't think I could achieve both of these objectives...but both are met with these shocks.

The shocks will limit travel when you jack the van off the ground, unloading the suspension.
But as me and snoop found that at 19" the stock shocks top out.
Snoop, all I need is washers and the golf donut?
I do have the front and rear Addco bars.
With the big brakes the van nose dives big time with the soft Bilstein's, but I love the ride.
I wanted adjustable Koni's but the don't show any for 1978 F150's or Bronco's.

One the first page where snoop mentions the "golf donut" click on it, it's an ebay link.
For the part #, how high does your van sit?
At 19", 15" shock extention is a little short
At 18.5, 15" shock extention seams to work but 14.5" is to short.
At 18" maybe any will work, I'm not sure on that.
Loogy also said it isn't 1:1 either. So an inch of lifting your van will take more than an inch of shock travel.
I wish I would have found a thread on this before I bought my Bilstein's.

I am at 18.5 front and rear on my van.
So we will have to see what I upgrade to for that application.

I called Monroe tech dept and they said the bottom mount is an LS46.
So the top is a S4and the bottom is a LS46
I went through the spec sheet and found no shocks with a LS46.
Snoop's two are the best option.
I bought some golf rings off ebay, but not the ones in Snoops link. The ones in the link looked to be plastic with 4 screw holding it together. The ones I bought are shinny rubber, hopefully they are the same size. _________________ --------------------------------------------------------

Not the trusting type 'eh Jeff...s'OK, skepticism's healthy. I did my homework...the one's I recommended are the best fit...and I wouldn't recommend 'em without having tested them thoroughly and finding them worthy of such. I wouldn't steer you wrong...I care about yooz guys!
There aren't any screws on the golf ring pictured in the link...those are holes in the plastic liner revealing the steel ring underneath the plastic. They're definitely a perfect fit for mating these shocks to the shock tower (in place of the OEM bumper stop housing...which they actually do a better job of...blasphemy I know!).
The ring dimensions are: OD= 2.6", ID= 1.4", H=0.65".

Hi All,
doing the lift right now! :o)

My question (for today :o) is:
Which is the front and which is the back
of the Lower Control arm?
I guess that would also be:
Which is the top & which is the bottom?
I've got them off & just want to make sure I get them back on right!
There is a little 1" X 1/2" tab VW has welded
to the side of the Lower Control Arm,
On the side near where the radius arm attaches
with the three bolts.
Should this Tab Face Front or Rear?

Oh wise (ass) ones where are these shocks the least expensive?
I will experiment too, but wish to use as little coin as possible.

Via Amazon I found a set for about $65 with free shipping. Rock has them for about $53 plus shipping. So depending on where you are, it may make a few bucks. I'm getting cheap in my old age. Sorry....
I am not "that" impressed with my rear ride, actually. Some tuning may yet be done back there.
I "will" give the fronts a whirl. Being cheap, I thought I would find out the least expensive purchase route. You know: "let your fingers do the walking."

Snoop, I got them on. The van seems more stable and less lean in the corners.
After the test drive I still notice the flutter through the floor at the gas pedal, the reason I thought the Bilstein's were too short.
So the Bilstein's are probablly ok but the extra 1 1/4" of the Monroe's can hurt.
Snoop, did you use both washers and rubber bushings(1 above the A arm, 1 below) plus the golf ring?
The "golf digest" ring I bought had the same diamentions as the ring in your link.
