I picked up an extra used fuel pump for my FI beetle, but got it home to see that it's slightly different. It's the same "silver bullet" shape, but a little smaller. It has "78 VAN" written on it by the salvage yard, and the part # is VW 043-906-091/Bosch 0580-463-010 (instead of ending in -016 like my beetle pump). Does anyone know what models this pump came on? And is it the same pressure as the -016 pump sold now for FI beetles, buses and vanagons?

That is the same pump as my 81 aircooled uses. I've heard that it is the same pump for FI bugs. It will more than likely work if you need it to.
If it looks different and has a different part number they are not the same, may just be the size (smaller for the beetle) may be more?
One thing to check is the part number that should be on your car. If you’re the original owner than you know what you had put on, who knows what the previous owners have done. Someone in the past may have put on the wrong one. I've found many such "surprises" in some of the past used cars I've owned. _________________ My Art:

Shouldn't matter actually, as long as the pressure is the same, in fact, you might be better off with a Vanagon pump over the Buggy one, since the later model pumps might be more dependable, or hold pressure better under load. _________________ Retired attorney--Tort King. |
