me again, I just checked the pictures in the Gallery, it has a ' B ' on the back !!!! so no need to answer that question, it looks like it's original belgian!! so, have you got the car's history, where in Belgium did it spend his 'life'?? how did you find it, or was it for sale from a collector or...? G.

looks really good! Did anyone else notice the front seat? The material on the top has the pebbled pattern, but the sides look smooth. Was this how it's supposed to be? I thought it was all pebbled?

After seeing this kombi, I finally have to post a question about commercial door and kick panels. The original door and kick panels in my June '53 kombi were painted white over the original grey. I thought it was probably a repaint by a previous owner. Then I noticed a few more commercial barndoors over the last several years with white panels too. I thought it was a coincidence, but now with the pics of this one, I am really wondering if there was a factory option to have the panels painted white. The ones on this kombi just look too neatly done, including inside the pockets. Could this be, or was white just a popular color to repaint them? Anyone else seen white panels in commercial barndoors, or any evidence that they were painted white at the factory? I will try to locate pics of barndoors with white panels as evidence. _________________ Looking for these items for my June '53 kombi:

It's been sitting the last 22 years in a friend's collection .
He got it like it still is today .
I o,ly removed the woden floor , thats been hidding the original cargofloor since '54 .
On it's papers or title , it say's camper .
Maybe that's why the roof is cut open .
There are no reinforcements on the sides , so it's not a sunroof . |

Great looking bus and what a nice overall condition to start with !!!
I love the repainted nose without the VW logo, looks so smooth , enhances the flow. But how could anyone improve on an early bus anyway ? Great find ! |

First of al congratulations to Mikey for finally getting this dream come true!
We've both known about this bus and the many other drooling VW's in this specific collection, but I couldn't think of anyone more worthy than Mikey to acquire this gem!
It's good to know that bus bus is finally brought out of its 30+ years of hibernation and will soon be roadworthy again.
I look forward that one day in the not so near future if I visit Belgium again we'll take her out for a spin! |

same here. I'd think the sides would never need replacing. Even the back rest looks to have smooth sides on it. Maybe they ran out of the pebbled and grabbed some spare smooth just to finish? Or maybe unique to belgium? |

I have a pretty nice '58 seat that has had a single side panel replaced. |

If you blow up the photo of the front seat, the seam up the side looks unlike factory seams I've seen. Looks like white thread, and doesn't have the overcast sewing where the thread covers the gap between fabric pieces.
I am not that familiar with barndoors, though, so comparisons with other seats of the same year would be best. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS
