Hey everyone!
Real newbie question here, I've just bought a uk '67 bug, I live in france so I'll be driving it back in a couple of weeks, then I'll need to change the headlights over for LHD ones, what part do I have to change?
Just the lenses? or the whole unit?
Thanks

Depending on how the lamp assembly is constructed, either the lens or the housing. Can you post a photo, especially the chrome ring, so we can see what you have? Might be easier to get a US style assembly and put a Hella H4 conversion kit in. |

I'll get a photo when I actually have the car, as it's not essential at the moment _________________

Look at the flutes on your headlight lense and you will notice it is not symetrical. They are designed to point the light away from oncoming cars. |

Assymetric pattern for LHD non-sealed beam headlamps (as viewed from the driver seat). It will be swapped side to side on a RHD car. You will be blinding opposing drivers!
Older lamp style, but you can see the assymetrical fluting on the lenses:
Notice the pie-slice shaped fluting at the 3-4 o'clock position as you look into the lamp. Keeping in mind that the pattern is optically inverted as it is projected through this combination reflective/refractive lens system, you can see that the "extra" light from that "slice" will be projected up and to the right (as viewed from the driver) on a LHD car. |
