If you are running a beetle engine in your Type 2 (whether by your choice or that of a previous owner), can you recommend a place where I can get an engine tin for a good price?

The one that was installed in my bus is pretty shoddy and it might be a reason why I am getting exhaust in the cabin:

(Btw, I've cleaned the compartment a bit since the picture and added a new air filter with a breather hose attached to the oil filler next to the generator)

not to be a jerk but the best price for tin is always going to be at a swap or someone getting rid of it on the CL, but beyond that i'd try german supply,
the shoddy tin could be crappy Chinese stuff and thats why it's not right. no such thing as good and cheap. either get the cheap stuff which you may already have or get the good german stuff.

I'll be looking like a hawk at the next swap around here (i think in August), but if I can find something sooner, that'd be awesome.

It looks like the one in there now was cut from sheet metal and drilled with screws into the engine bay.

ha just noticed yours is a '75 word on the street is you want the creative carcraft tin or something like that. as far as i know there is only one company that make the tin for your conversion and it's not very cheap but apparently it fits like a glove. i'll search and see if i can find the link.

You need this: http://www.creativecarcraft.com/notforbug.htm And a real fan shroud instead of that phoney 36 hp one, look for a core engine locally if you can because if yours has that crappy shroud there's likely alot of other stuff missing or Chinese quality.

And a fan shroud? Shit...more things to add to the list Sad

Anyhow, between the link above and this I found:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=606071

Any difference in quality?

If not, then I'll just go for the cheaper "Not For Bugs" one

the Creative Car Craft "tin" is only 225. at 350, this advertiser might very well be reselling CCC "tin". and that's the best case scenario.

at worst, he is charging 350 for some poorly made crap fabricated in his garage. especially at that price with no picture of what he is selling- BEWARE

I checked CIP1.com and there are lots of fan shroud options. Could you provide any hints as to which type I may need?

um no you could get better used and cheaper.
do it once do it right get a 71 doghouse with flaps and thermo if you can.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?...ton=Search

but if you want some thing cool and new
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1523

but you still have to do some thing to fit it to a bus see that bottom front tin peace on the CB "puma" fan shroud that will not just hook up to a bus, bug ghia yes.
the 71 bus had the one yr only tin you may need or you may need to order some thing from E.U. or Aussieland where that still had type 1 engines after 71

71 only you cant find new

I'm not sure if the CCC fiberglass tin set has the hole for the doghouse vent already cut out but all the Euro 1600 busses were doghouse. Find a used shroud in the classifieds, far better quality and performance than anything made currently.

Good call on the used shroud. If I'm lucky, it'd be great to score a 71 fan shroud.

Here are photos from this morning of the engine compartment, plus the motor:

That's quite the sealing job, between the holes around the engine and the substandard shroud you had better do something fairly quick, that's a recipe for disaster.

No mustache bar either, interesting.
