Came accross this on ebay. Just trying to learn more. Why would you switch the engine around like this?

That's the correct arrangement for an
earlier model Ghia. Battery went to driver's
side in 1966.

I always wondered why they switched it since the starter is on the passenger side. All other things being equal it seems to make more sense to have the battery on that side.

should have just put it under the rear seat

While the rear seat location cleans up the appearance of the engine bay and helps a bit with handling, I personally find it to be a PIA when working on the car. It was always a pain in my Beetle.

actually, I LOVE my battery not being in the engine compartment, more area to place my large head in and work on stuff. Very Happy
