|

Hello all,
I am having difficulty finding the correct year for my convertible.
VIN 2577***
http://www.inerd.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=32 says it September 1959
Samba chart says July 1959
http://www.lightner.net/ybdb/serno.html says 1960
I have the service manual for 1958 to 1960. I find that most things match the 1959 model... ie. manual choke (disconnected) and 2 seperate fuse blocks under hood. Maybe it is a 1959 on a 1960 frame??? Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

you think one of them is correct. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

The 59 and 60 models are very similar, the only differences that are obvious are the door handles (59 icepick) and the rear snubber on the shock horn (60 has the snubber stop), the steering wheel can be changed but the 59 has the off set batwing and the 60 has the later dish type. Most 60s ive seen already have the one year only front trans mount modified to the later type.
Just by what youve posted, if it is a July 59 and later it is a 60 model year vert. Judging by your pic it is a 60. |

I had the same problem on my august 59 (60 model year). I had to order a new harness and when I looked at the diagrams they did not match what I had. I ended up ordering the 59 harness and it worked fine. It seems there is some run over on parts from the factory sometimes and they use up parts they already have from the previous year until they run out, then start with the new stuff.
BTW does the pan match the body tag? What about the snubber and front trans mount? the mount is the definite way to tell. |

Your vin tag should be behind the spare tire beside the brake fluid resrvoir. |
