Was ready to put the pertronix module in my stock 76 2.0 bus until I read your thread about how they may be harmful to these flat type 1V motors. Could you be more specific on why they my not be the best for the later motors. Thanks

i was just in jacksonville,fl at a show and talked to a couple people about it and they love them. one said he put it in and went 60,000 miles without a hitch.i'm defenitly putting one in my 71'. one thing though, i called petronix and they said it is only good with the 009 distributor. which is fine for me but some one was saying they were gonna put one on a vaccum advance. i would double check that first. also those guys in jacksonville said not to bother with the ignitor 2 because that is more for hot roding and the ignitor 1 is just fine for us.

This is a topic that gets kicked around about twice a month so you can probably search past threads for more info. I have used the Pertronix on several busses and they seem to work very well. I have one on my 76 2.0 liter Westfalia now and it has performed well for nearly 20,000 miles. I encourage you to use a higher quality Bosch cap and rotor with the Pertronix. I tried to used the cheap stuff once with the Pertronix and it lasted about 5,000 miles before the rotor melted down and the cap was full of slag. Never had this problem with the Bosch stuff while using the Pertronix and I never had this problem with the cheap stuff while using points. Pertronix makes separate units for the 009 and the stock vacuum advance distributors. Good luck.
