I just bought a 72' Type 2 VW Bus and the guy i bought it from took out the dash, winshield wipers and the venting to weld a new piece of metal under the windshield...I am wondering if you could help me out by telling me what i should install first so I dont have to rip everything out if i install something at the wrong time.
And also where to install certain components...winshield wiper components, vents
thanks |

Start with the windshield, if the repair was done wrong it won't fit.
After that the wiper assembly and plumbing goes in first, then the dash and then the ducting. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Better buy a Bentley manual.
When I did mine I had the dash off and the steering out
cleaned up the wiring and made sure everything in the fuse box matched the wiring diagram for my year.
Cleaned and greasded the wipers and reinstalled them with new grommets makeing sure it matched Bentley
Then the dash top
Installed the heater tubes
Then the dash front
Then the pad and grab handle
Then the light and hazard switches etc
Then the heater and cool air levers and cables and tested them
Then the Instrument cluster and matched up the wires.
Then the steering and wires
Then before putting the wheel on we tested all the electrical and solved some relay problems.
Then the windshield (in our case there was no rust or changes in this area and it was totally stock dimensions. Although cracked from a chip a factory windshield was still in it when we bought it.
Then the wheel and tested the horn
I am probably forgetting something.
Good luck. Buy a Bentley - you will need it. If you look for a good used one that covers up to 74 or 76 it may have color wiring diagrams in it which will make tracing wires easier. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I did it in a slightly different order. I didnt put the dash top on until I had all the switchs wired in. It was alot easier to do from the outside with the windshield out than from underneath. Same with the heater levers, instrument cluster etc. _________________ 73 Riviera Camper - "Julius"
