I was searching for wheels for my bus for almost a year when I finally found the set I have now on my bus. I have a 1976 Westy that has the dreaded 5 on 112 bolt pattern that comes on late model busses. I was first interested in locating a set of adapters that would allow me to change to the large 5 pattern, no luck or i could have made at cost of $350 for all four. I also had looked into the Mercedes Benz option and purchased a set of four 280 SEL rims that also had the same bolt pattern. The rims from the Benz did fit but the center of the rims needed to be made larger to allow for the nut and half axel to push through. I didnt like this look as it left something looking unfinished. I opted for awhile to run nice looking hubcaps over the VW rims. This was a good poormans alternative. But after all the run around, I finally found and now sport a wonderful set of Prime Rims that are 16X7.5in. with 215x15x16HR with only little modification ( the wheels fit, but the half axels needed to be ground down and new nut with cotter pin fabrication. But the actual tire and rims fit, it was the dust cover that wouldn't go on because of the hieght of the 1/2 axels). But the nice thing about this tire and rim set up is that there is clearance in the back, turning isn't limited, and the wheels are only 1/2 inch shorter then the org. stock tire hieght. |
