Is there any difference between a T1 and T3 dual port heads? I got a set of rebuild T3 heads I will like to install on my T1 engine.
Thank you in advance,
Luis |

I have a set of them. im not sure what year they are from but yes. instead of having an oil breather port coming off the valve covers, there is a small port coming off the head around the rockers.
Ill take a picture later if no one has seen these. maybe they are worth some $$ _________________ '67 Beetle w/ 1600

As far as I know, no stock VW valve covers had an oil breather.
Sounds weird to me. Let's see the pictures.
Why do you think thay are stock?

Well you'd be wrong. The late models, 72 and 73, had breather tubes installed in the heads with lines that went to the oil breather, air bath cleaner, as well as other places.

During the same time period, VW also did this with the Type 4 cylinder head. This cylinder head is from a 914/912E 2.0 Type 4. See the pipe fitting to the bottom-left of the left intake port?

Here's another schematic of the PVC system. It's a crappy scan that I did but it shows the direction of airflow.
Most people assume that these are just more vents to let out excess crank case pressure. But look at the schematic and you see that the vents actually allow cool, clean air from the airfilter to flow into the engine. Crankcase gasses then pass through a PCV valve into the manifold. At most times there should be a slight vacuum in the crankcase with this system.
The idea is to keep the inside of the engine clean, cool and leak free since youv'e got clean air drawn through the engine instead of the crankcase being pressurised with dirty blowby gases. Some say it also reduces windage and that the airflow through the pushrod tubes helps move oil back from the heads to the sump.

Stoner A is cylinders #2/4 B is #1/3 The plugged bowl is the throttle, the bong is the manifold |

That would be PCV- positive crankcase ventilation,
somewhat different than PVC- polyvinyl chloride |
