Hi All, I am trying to remove the input shaft seal on my 70 fastback and it is giving me fits. Does anyone know any tricks to removing this seal? thanks, Jeff

is the original seal a rubber rings with metal inside? I have the rubber off and now I can't figure out how to get the metal out...ugh!

Yes, the seal is made from a metal base with rubber over that.
You will have to get that metal piece out.

I have had good luck drilling a long screw into the metal part of the seal, and then using a hammer to pull on the screw and pull the seal out. I typically have to drill two screws, one on each of the seal, to remove it.

I used a seal puller on mine. $8-10 at Sears I believe.
