|
|
:WARNING: This procedure is not for the purest-at-heart VW fanatic.
However, it is kind of a neat, easy, and very inexpensive way to fix that rusty old reflector on your “peanut” type turn indicator.
Considering that OG ones are getting harder and harder to find in good shape, especially the screw terminal type, this may be a low cost, maybe even free, alternative.
All you need is an everyday stainless steel table spoon, which conveniently has the same curvatures as the reflector.
It may not be perfect, but you know it will never rust again, and if you really wanted to get spiffy you could use solid rivets instead of pop rivets.
Hope this is useful to someone. _________________ 1960 Sedan. L349 Jade Green. |

Terrific fix! If anybody is close enough to your peanut to knick-pick it's orginality- they're too frickin' close! _________________

I have a question, how does it compare, reflection-wise, to the original? Probably pretty close, it looks very similar!

Suppose a Smucker's truck jackknifes in front of you- dumping 40,000 gallons of Red Raspberry Preserves all over the motorway. One guy's gonna be prepared- you guessed it- Duginabug. _________________

My sole intention was functionality. This is a car that my wife will be driving regularly so I want to make sure they (and everything else) work like they were meant to.
I haven't had a chance to try ithem out yet because the fenders aren't on the car, but if they work like in that photo that will be sweet. _________________ 1960 Sedan. L349 Jade Green. |

I forgot to mention, this fix is not limited to the peanut style indicators. A guy could probably find something say...like...a lid from a saucepan for the larger reflectors.
Or maybe a nice serving spoon.
The Goodwill (or any second hand store) is a great place to find many dandy little sacrificial stainless steel items real cheap. _________________ 1960 Sedan. L349 Jade Green. |
