|
|
Ok, so I have solved 97 1/2% of my oil leaks...(fan hub seal, dipstick boot, oil pressure sender, and the dipstick tube). The engine leaks absolutely NO oil at idle, or while parked. (much to the chagrin of nearby campers)
My question is simple...is the breather cap supposed to have some kind of, I'll use word "Crap" (think spongy stuff like a copper/steel wool pad) inside it.
I recall my last breather cap had some stuff inside it that that let positive crankcase pressure get by, but trapped the oil.....
Enlighten me? |

Not sure what's stock, but it is very common for a sponge or metal brillo or plastic brillo pad to be in a breather box for the reasons you stated. |

When I opened my breather box the first time, there was a paper towel in there!
As far as I know, there is just supposed to be a gasket there:

Yeah, I have the trapezoid cork gasket, (maybe I get a new one) just wondering if my other engine didn't have some sort of "oil catching" pad up in the cover...Bentley shows nada, nor does it mention it.
A lot of oil seems to be getting out of the breather hose on the way to the carb. I may have too much "blow-by" but I wanna keep the outside of the engine DRY. |

Wow...none of the Samba's "experts" will respond?
Is this why Colin created a new site?
My engine is runnin' great with over 100psi in all four, but there seems to be some "blow by" (oil on top of the engine) and I asked a simple question about the breather cap. I just replaced the trapazoid gasket...
"is there, or is there not, any factory 'screen' in the breather cap?
Sure, I'm runnin' a weber prog, with the breather hose connected....and gettin' 23+ miles a gallon...
anyone? |

Easy brother, not all of us spend 24/7 on here to answer questions. Well some do maybe..?!
Are you 100% certain oil is leaking from the breather? What about the oil pressure sender or distributor base? Sometimes even the bottom of the distributor body itself. _________________ www.zwerks.ca |
