I approve. Any bus that's set up to haul ass is badass. They destroy the stereotype of buses being slow. Exemplified by Team Bad Dog time and time again- even stock, reduction box buses ARE fast. Get some power behind a properly set-up lowered, straight axle split and a driver who's been outside the city limits, and I'll be cheering that one on for sure. Why most of us hate lowered buses, is not so much the buses themselves, but more the NON-performance, inept drivers whose focus is squarely vested in aesthetics and image. Some of us don't understand this, thus, we heave and look away.

Enter the badass-bus-racer-fast-performance-motherfucker. Good.

Of course this is a little old, but here you go...

Five years to build that one. Check http://www.race-taxi.ch/indexx.htm for insane pics. Insane is an understatement. They cut the roof off, made forms and laid up another one in carbon fiber to save weight... and that's after... you just have to see. Too much. Try that on your 996 powered SBS. Interesting to note: the bus started out as either a DD Standard or Kombi... either way, pretty rare. You'll be glad to see -even after removing everything from inside out- that they kept the DD option functional... smart.

Full details and another (slightly faster) video here http://www.torquestats.com/modified/index.php?car_id=136
There's more to come Wink

The Wheeler Dealer Barndoor (fastest in the world!) in case you missed this awesome bus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hew0XpRUYN8

And although it's not a split this is a Bay Panel worth watching - especially as he's still testing, shutting off at 2/3 track and rolling through with a 12.1!!!!! - there's a lot more to come from this and rumour has it the engine will be going in a split at some point - Nice.....

some cool pictures on that thread and a dyno run here

AWESOME. How did you get it to wheelie? It seems like with the RGB's, the rear is what wants to lift.

What kind of suspension setup do you have on that?

The turbo is behind the oil cooler?

Hell, I barely feel safe going 60mph on the highway in my 67. I wouldn't dare pull a wheely!

This will help....the future of split bus suspensions. (3k shipped to the U.S.)

From red9design website:

"Our kit bolts on to your chassis, replacing the beam, steering box and all associated linkages.

Comes complete to the spindles and includes all the mounting plates, wishbones, rack and pinion steering, column support brackets, bevel box, universal jointed link to rack and a few bolts.

All the wear parts are sourced from Volkswagens parts bin, so that spares should be readily available for many years to come. The wishbone bushes are an up rated Ford item which should also be available in the future.

The ride quality, steering sharpness and lightness are all outstanding! It blows my mind whenever I drive ours, it is so different to what was there before! The ride quality is the same at whatever height you choose! You are more than welcome to test our Bus.

Speaking of which, we attended Vanwest in Weston Super Mare in May. A little round trip of 420 miles towing a trailer full of kit!

NOTE: we did not trailer our Bus to the Show and try to sell products we donít use.

It is adjustable for height using two methods. The first is a coarse adjustment on the 4 bolt holes. This give 3Ē, 4Ē, 5Ē, and 6Ē drop. Then there is approx. 1.5Ē on the coilover which makes a possible total of 7.5Ē! Fine adjustment can then be carried out using the coilover.

Stiffness is adjusted as our other coilovers using the knob at the bottom.

Camber is adjusted using the original camber nut we are all used to.

Caster is adjusted using shims to move the relative positions of the top and bottom wishbones. If itís good enough for Lotus itís good enough for me!

Toe is adjusted using the track rods as normal.

Using the coarse adjustment allows the wishbones to be kept at their optimum angles over a wider range of heights.

The track is 40mm narrower than a Bay and 24mm narrower than the Split, that was done so that by the time our adaptors are fitted if you want wide 5 wheels the track would be stock on a Split.

No narrower options are available as the wishbones would be too short to give good geometry control.

We use modified late Bay spindles so that disc brakes are available to all at reasonable cost (we could do it for £1800.00 for a Bay Kit with Late Bay Brakes Complete). Upgrades can still be used, from mild to wild as well as the wide variety of wheel and tyre combinations that are in use today.

We have already supplied customers (one for 944 brakes the other to keep his drums!) with early spindles and we can do this if you need them, however, it is difficult to get hold of them, we have to modify them in a few areas to make them fit and it is a pain in the arse! Thatís why we ask you to supply them! The extra charge for doing this is £175.00.

So itís £1500.00 for the Bay and £1650.00 for the Split Screen Based kit. The difference is that we supply a complete new column for the Split Screen Bus, and yes there is a hole down the column so you can use the Horn!

Hope thatís all good for you and look forward to speaking to you soon.

Need it fitting, get it fitted right! We can do this for £350.00

Wishbone Kit"
