Besides worn seals, what else can cause an oil leak in the engine, and/or transmission, which are most fatal, and how can you tell?

Loose fasteners will cause leaks. Also if you overheat theengine, parts warp and cause leaks.

Old use parts and should of been thrown away.

It IS possible to have a ACVW that doesn't leak.

Ha, yes I know I've had 2 that never leaked. I'm asking because of a specific car that has these leaks. I just want to know what else to look for. I mean, I'm sure it'll be pretty obvious once it's in front of my face, but I might not know how serious it could be if it's something besides seals.

Blowby is another cause. Venting the valve covers and case will prevent this.
