A few years ago an ex-girlfreind of mine had the idea for that same thing. She was pretty convinced that with about an afternoon on a sewing machine she could have made one. As far as the poles go, you could probaly get away with using coduit piping like that used for electrical work... _________________ Jim in Sacto -

No sightings of this tent yet? It looks as though there is a suction cup doing the bulk of the securing. I'm assuming there may be a rope sewn into the fabric also to snug up to fit to the car. Kind of like a hoody sweat shirt. |

one day i was bored and i did alot of research on these tents. they were made locally here in portland or. by the white stag co.
i have found original paperwork and the patent #. i even went to the address i had found (johnson creek rd). sadly i have no idea where those papers are now, but i will look for them.

I wonder how different that is from a standing bus tent. The white stag bus tents show up on ebay from time to time. I think the last one was 125 or so buy it now. And wow for bringing up a thread I started in 2006. _________________

Well I'll be, it says "van tent" on the tag. Guess they might be one in the same.

Not vintage, but this tent looks like it would work on a Sqbk. Looks like a volks in the photo, albeit later model.

I considered one of those, but for a cheaper price, I decided to go with a sweet vintage canvas tent in the end. I sleep in my square camping alone at shows, but I need the room for the husband and child when they decide they wanted to be subjected to camping (most likely because of VWs) too. Ha.
But, I wouldn't pass up a stag. _________________

Read the description:
"Adapted for use…"
That means the article is intended to be used with something else (a bus?), and has here been applied to the square. Simple semantics. This is not a T3 specific item. _________________ Be kind…

Gee... thanks for clearing that up. The photo says "A free-standing tent for Squarebacks!" and the website link says "The photos here give a good idea of the appearance and construction of this tent, which was possibly a generic van tent rather than strictly for VW. Like the Squareback mounting?".
Yes. I know it isn't type 3 specific. Also note the original post was from 2006. The mystery has been solved. Go forth and buy white stags! _________________
