when i first got my sage 78 westy i had to do a lot of stuff to get her on the road. karl was a constant help. he walked me through repairs i didn't think i could do. he would send me parts at more than fair prices when i needed them. what a great guy, i'll miss him. i always said i'd come visit him. there is a lesson here somewhere. i should have driven my bus to Oregon to show Karl.

I met Karl at Busses By the Bridge and then traveled back from jerome with he and Harry. He was a wonderful resource and a good friend. May you rest in peace and I'm glad that you are out of any previous pain. _________________ 71 Westy Roadcow

My Condolences to the von Salzen Family...
When I joined the type2.com mailing list back in the late 90's, Karl was one of the guys that always knew those little details that just weren't documented on the web yet. Supplying parts and information made him a cornerstone of the online vw bus community...
Karl you will truly be missed.

Wow. Hadn't chimed in for a while but searched by author on a forum topic I knew Karl had posted pics.
Part of the reason why I haven't chimed in forums until today was all that I absorbed throughout the crux of a 2008 resto and hadn't needed to revisit threads because most all the crucial posts (many by Karl) helped me get things right the first time.
RIP. _________________ '74 Orange Westy "Jul-e-us" |
