Mine came last week while I was in Chicago:
I didn't know white walls were an option in 1971. I'll have to put them on it. Thin white walls right? _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I went back over this thread. Everyone's car seems to have come with white walls. Interesting. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I just put my request in. I found out that they will not provide you with the original Engine number that was installed on your VW because of some privacy concerns... Wouldn't want to offend any engines out there...
But if you provide them the number off of your VW engine, they can confirm wether or not it is original to your car. |

I believe the reason why they will not give you the engine # is
a pretty good one. The reason they will not give you the # unless you give them the right one is simply because of fraud. Some people will take that number and stamp it into thier new case and try to pass it off as original. _________________ RUSTFARMER....I like anything old and rusty! |

Got the certificate to our '72 last week. Very cool. Found out that our Ghia was originally an auto transmission. Never seen one. All the auto transmission stuff that was original to the car is gone, just a normal stick right now. Oh well. |

Another reason is that some states use to use the engine number for the title instead of the vin number on the body. _________________ The 68 Ghia

Just sent off for mine. We'll see how long it takes. |
A little under 4 weeks, not bad. Current cost is $51.50 using September exchange rate. A few surprises on this one though,
It's US spec'ed but was originally delivered to Germany and still has it's original engine. That's kind of cool.
Here is a list of US equipment that they sent along with it.

Finally got my certificate on Monday
Cool to find out the the engine # matches and ao does the color. Interestingly it mentions a right side mirror in the options which is not there any more.
I plan to get it scanned and posted soon. _________________ '63 Ghia convertible |

Just ordered mine for the new year. Cost $50.40 US. Had to use an online translator to translate German to English on the credit card payment form. |

Hello together.
I have a 1964 Karmann Ghia. I also have this document, which cost € 35 and took nearly 4 months until I could hold it in my hands. |

Received this email today...
------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Dailey,
Thank you for your email.
In principle the Stiftung AutoMuseum Volkswagen is pleased to research the data of your old Volkswagen from the vehicle data base and to draw up a birth certificate.
However, we are not able to research the data of your Volkswagen because the micro fiche regarding the chassis number of your car is crumbling and illegible.
We will recharge the amount of 35,00 € to your VISA account within the next few days.
We ask for your understanding.
Yours sincerely,
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Wolfgang Doerk

Got mine today!
Haven't scanned it, but here's the skinny:
Built and left factory on March 7, 1957.
Original destination: Frankfurt, Germany
Color: L330 Trout Blue
Extras:
M 018 Larger reflector in brake
M 020 MPH speedometer
M128 White wall tires
M138 Sealed Beam headlamps, red tail lights, hazard warning lights but without headlight flasher
M 129 Sealed beam headlamps and red rear lamp lenses
M 951 Outside mirror
M 950 cannot be identified.
Mine did not come with a bulleted list extra, as it is too old for the "US package". However, it did tell me the engine was not original, but I knew that, the engine is from 1960.
So....
Why is sealed beam headlamps and red tail in two options, and what does "without flasher" mean? Is that referring to the lever on the steering column, or the foot switch?
And does anyone have a clue what m 950 is? I wonder if it's the Dehne fuel gauge. _________________ (O= i =O) One day, lad, this car will be yours. |
