there is a tiico group at yahoo that can probably answer your question. You may want to research Tiico before installing one. I have one and would not do it again as a replacement. Can you spell V-I-B-R-A-T-I-O-N. If I had to do it all over again I would do a Subaru conversion. Just my dos pesos. _________________ '85 Cabriolet (Margo)

i have a tiico in an automatic. its alright... although i am biased. i love it for driving around town, and cruising around 50ish, but my other van is my prefered trip van. its a manual with a subaru motor. i do like the tiico though, its pretty nice on hte highway, deffinitely no powerhouse, but nice. its a little loud on the highway, not the van, just the motor. mostly because in an automatic it revs pretty high at speeds. what kind of questions do you have? just let me know if i can be of help to you. FAS is way better at getting back to you than Peter ever was. Whenever I've called they always get back to me in a few hours at the longest.
They actually send you the parts that you pay for too, unlike Peter (at the end of Tiico). _________________ 89 Bluestar-2.5 Subaru Powered-RIP

Well I dropped my WBX to redo the heads and ran into a deal for a Tiico, the guy is selling it because he has another van with a another swap, it run and in low mileage cond. It is w/ a manual, I contacted FAS and they will get back to me if they can order me a a/t kit????
But I would like to know if it is reliable behind a A/t I know it is a little more hp. and more torque and obviously a longer lasting engine less maintanance etc. I can look at he pro's all day long, But then again It is around $2K-$2500 for that I can redo my engine and know it last me another 200K miles.
Can you cruise at 70-75 comfortably with it? or will I push the trans too hard? thanks _________________ 1976 Renault r12 break

The zetc seems like a better bet if you are going to keep it.
I have a tiico in the westy and it is Ok better than the 2.1.
Mine runs smooth after westyventures reinstaled it so its there for now.
Nice mini another box. |

you can deffinitely cruise 70-75 all day in it. i do and i still get about 19 mpgs. BUT for 2000 or more dollars, i wouldnt do it. i bought a parts van for 1,000 dollars that had the tiico with 30,000 miles and a bluestar with a bar motor for 1,0000 dollars. thats the ONLY reason i have a tiico. i wouldnt do it again, except for a cheap cheap price. i love the subarus. i've driven one zetec conversion, and i hated it. i would go with a 2.2 all day for any van. the svx is nice, but overkill. for your price, i dont think iwould go the tiico way, plu syour gonna hve to buy an a/t kit, which im sure is a few hundred bucks. spend some money to fix your waterboxer, then save up some money for a subaru conversion. thats my advice, but its all up to you. where are you located? im in northern colorado if you;d like to drive an a/t tiico and a stick suby. the tiico is better than stock, but not much. although, its nice to have piece of mind of a low mileage motor and newer technology. i upgraded to the serpentine belt set up and its hte only way to go. the tiico bracketry is terrible. let me know if theres anything else ican help with. I have an A/T mated to my 1.9 TD diesel. Yes different engine but the same layout as the Tiico. I dont have any problems with it. The At is very stout I have seen them mated to the VR6 as well. If you like driving an auto its a good tranny. And there is a gearing option on the horizon for it as well. _________________ 95 GMC Yukon 6.5 TD 2 Door Tow pig/ Daily driver.

Thanks for all the help fellas, I will decide here shortly, I just purchased the van not too long ago and it is very Free of rust, I'm up here in the Great Lakes area where we get a lot of Government Salt in the winter(on the raods) and to me having a very minimal to rust free vDub counts, I can deal with dressing it up later. One issue I did notice is when I go into Reverse on my Auto tranny, it does not want to engage sometimes when it is hot???? but when it is cold it will work ???? any one have that issue?
could it be linkeage? in the forward gears it works with no problems... _________________ 1976 Renault r12 break

As I said earlier, contact Randy. I believe that he will be at a campout in Brazil, Indiana next weekend; maybe you can check it out for yourself. The TiiCo that he has came from my totalled Westy (manual tranny) and he found (on thesamba) someone wanting to install a TiiCo from an Auto into a stick tranny; so, even swap and both were happy Kim |

FAS is working with another supplier on the ring a pinion for the auto trans to get it geared better so it doesnt rev as high with the diesel or some other such conversion. _________________ 95 GMC Yukon 6.5 TD 2 Door Tow pig/ Daily driver.

Anyone ever had Reverse issues??????
I notice mine when I put it in R it seems like it is slipping?/??/???
it seems like it takes a second to engage and then it will ggo in reverse but it will not go up a incline like a drive way, and I think it is only when it is warm ??? any one here with an AUTO gone trough that? _________________ 1976 Renault r12 break
