Hey. Having some issues here... The pump is working; new filter is full of gas. When I prime the carbs, it runs for a few seconds and then dies. It's been sitting so I put in the new filter and some fresh gas. Runs when I prime it, then dies... Hum...

is it out of gas? air in the lines? did you put the fuel lines on the correct in/out nipples on the pump?

is the filter in the engine compartment or under the tank?

How long has the car sat? Is the fuel pump diaphragm hard and cracked?
The late gold colored pumps do not like to sit for any time with gas in them. The diaphragm hardens up.

the filter's in the engine compartment. the pump is pulling fuel into the filter. My brother had the tank pulled and cleaned but it has sat for a couple of years with old gas. I putt in a few gallons of good gas... When I prime it, it runs but dies when that fuel's used up.

The fuel is probably getting into the filter by gravity. The tank is probably higher than the engine.
Unhook the coil, so there are no sparks, and then unhook the line going to one of the carbs. Put the end of the hose in a soda bottle, and then crank the engine and see if you are getting fuel out of the pump.
If you are, then you may have a carb problem. Plugged needle and seat, stuck float, etc.

Thanks guys. It's parked backwards in a driveway; tank below the motor. He never got it running right, gave up for a couple of years and gave it to me. I think I need to take the carbs to some one who knows their stuff (& is cheap). I gotta quit looking for the quick fix and do 'er right.

Thanks again.
