|
|
Hi Folks! Maybe someone ask for it before, but I couldnīt find anything... A friend and I are working on a '51, and the point we were not sure how to install molds in any Split -`cause of its shape- without damaging Splitīs moldingīs curves.
I never use this method, even in later models, I guess it only works w/stainless steel moldings:
http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Restore-Chrome-Molding-on-VW-Volkswagen-30438025
Is there a "correct" way to fix them on the body? is it the same for all models?
Thanks! _________________ 1957 Oval Window - Polar Silver L324

split clips are different from later clips , no rubber cupt under it except for some "witch" hats glued under the hood and doors .... too funny they will keep water between the body steel and the clip after you wash and dry the car ....correct me if i am wrong ... _________________ in my Garage:

Use a small piece of wood to press on the moldings to distribute the pressure and not leave a "thumb dimple". _________________ John Henry

it is just a clip issue , john , and the fact that he thought early cars would use the small rubber cups from the outside .... _________________ in my Garage:

I use 2 thin steel spattles to press on each side of a clip to prevent paint damage during assembly. Clip has sharp edges to cut paint on hole.
I use the same method to remove moldings.
Grooved moldings has no big risk for "thumb dimple", they are much more stiff than newer model molding. |

|
|
Hello
I have a 50, that is currently be restored (3 years ): I thought the bug was 100% original. However, I took a close look at the hood, and its only 3 tabs. Is there any possible way this could be original to the car ?
Thx _________________ 1950 Standard

Is there a triangle underneath the hood with three small holes where the tabs go thru? Does each hood arm have three bolts? Is there a separate bolt for the hood prop? Is there holes for a hood badge? _________________ It all works on paper.
