I've been thinking about Vanagon seats, but I was told that my bus won't accept the swap because of the type of rails.
Are there any other good seats that are recommended for swapping into a 75 bus? |

Hi,
this may not apply as you could have different models in the US but I have been told that most ford and vauxhall seats will fit, just need a couple more bolt holes. I know your ranges of vehicles differ to ours in the UK but might be worth checking out.
I haven't made up my mind what I am going for yet but I may opt for ones out of a small ford.

Nothing will adapt right into your Bus with the existing seat rails. The rails changed midway through the '76 model year. No ford or any other manufacturer's seats are going to be a direct fit, and there are NO BOLT HOLES for your seats. Search the forums a bit, this gets covered quite a lot.

I think the rails are exactly the same, |
No, they aren't....not even close.

but even if they aren't - the seats are. |
Again, no, they aren't....in fact, they are vastly different.

See above, Buses have NO BOLT HOLES to hold the stock seats in. In a '75, the driver's seat slides into the tracks, and on the passenger side, the seat snaps into the brackets. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

my bad, I had a 76 and didn't know they changed the way the seats slide into the rails the year prior...
glad I could make a contribution to the misinformation that is occasionally thesamba. |

They will if you get a set of swivels. That is what I did (well actually I only have the rail (Top) part. I will be welding these in so that I can use the Vanagon seats. _________________ Ken

Bolt holes? We don't need no stinkin' bolt holes!
I don't condone the above, but the POs of my bus figured they'd just drill those suckers in, much like everything else they did to the interior of the bus.
Anyway, I guess I won't be getting any vanagon seats anytime soon.
Maybe I can repair my original driver seat and throw the set back in?

I found some real nice seats from a Hundi. Very easy to adapt. |
Mid to late 90's Ford Explorer. All electric with power lumbar, too. Very comfy and just a few mods to install and only 2 wires to operate. Great for those long distance iron butt VW adventures. Will post pics soon. Hey sorry but My Bus ..My Butt. _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I put Rabbit (at least I think they were Rabbit) seats in my '79. I took the sliding plate from the stock seats, cut and modified the plate so the new seat was cradled. I then bolted (yes holes) the seat to the sliding plate. Fit like a charm and fully functional. Not sure for your '75 though. |
