When the new radiator and front end was redone, following my encounter with Bambi, they left out the cardboard air dams. I purchased left and bottom ones and Bently doesn't give good pictures of attachment.
Anyone have pics for me?
Thanks.

Don't know if this helps but this is from my 1982 diesel westy. They basically attach with that one screw

New ones are so much nicer than 20 year old parts. the clowns that rebuilt mine (for the same reason) did the same thing.
I think the late model might be a bit different than the 82 diesel. I know the radiator attachments are different.

I made new ones out of a corrugated plastic "cardboard" For Sale sign. Used the old ones as templates, traced them with a sharpee, cut them out with a utility blade a bolted them on. 2 years later they're like brand new.

The wife always goes out the day after elections and gathers up old campaign signs for this kind of purpose. Sounds like the way to go.

Mine are shot.

Has anyone tried to refurbish these by soaking them in penetrating epoxy ro some such similar material?

Will that stiffen them too much?

Maybe even treat new ones with a sealant of some sort?

Neat.

On my engine swap, I never got around to installing the cardboard.

Any drawbacks to using HVAC tin?

(I have some lying around)

Neil.

What ever you use should be softer than the surrounding material, so Hvac tin would tend to fret holes in things like the radiator and your paintwork. Good thing about campaign signs, besides their utility use as scrap, is you can get community service hours for each one as well when you remove them.

Works nicely for our scouts that needed a little extra hours or even for those that have had a less than favorable run in with Johnny Law.

I assume you are talking about sheetmetal? The cardboard has to kind of be wiggled and bent into place and there is a tab that goes near the top of the radiator that might be difficult to bend. The headlight loom also runs across there and would have the good possibility of being cut.

This stuff (thin. Easy to cut/bend)

Thanks for tips. I might have one or two of the cardboard bits from the '85 I parted out. We'll see...... Wink

Hmmm, I've heard the opposite. that they are property of the campaign and if caught removing them can be prosecuted for theft. Confused
which would end up as ironic community service to remove them from the interstates on/off ramps. Mad

Thanks Dogpilot. Between info from you and Syncrodoka, seems like HVAC tin is the wrong material.

Removing them during a campaign is a crime. After the election they are fair game and the candidates have 30 days to take them down in most jurisdictions if they are on public property. Ran for council once, lost by 40 votes, best thing that ever happened. The winner wanted to slash his wrists after a year or so. Go sued by coworkers, lost lottery winnings and on and on.

Even Carl Hiaasen wrote about it, in one of his books, the protagonist is raving about one candidate as his savior, by putting up clusters of signs with his name only, 300 more of this A$$Hxxs signs and I'm free!
