I went to the Pick & Pull yard today for a couple Subau parts and there was a very complete '78 Westy. I walked out with a mint front floormat, cab step rubber mats, taillight assemblies, headlight rings, glovebox lock, a lock cylinder for the slider, a window regulator, a vent wing and the best part - a clock! There was also a set of bumper impact strips that my Dad got. All for $85.00! This stuff will find a home on my '76 panel except for the floormat since my bus is RHD and this one is too nice to cut up.

Clocks are a tough find in the bone yards...does it work? is the glass missing/broken? hard to tell from your pic.
ETA: amazing that bus didn't find it's way to Chris @ Bustedbus if it was near Denver... |

'78 Westy's didn't come with a rubber front floor mat. But great score on all the parts. Peace! _________________

I just tested the clock and it works! The glass cleaned up nicely as well. I didn't think that Westy's had the rubber floormat either, but ut was under the carpet. Weird. |

I alomst forgot about them! I got what was looking for. I also saw a 1998 Impreza 2.5 RS coupe in Arcadian Green, which they only made 250 of. In Subaru it's called a unicorn. It was a darn shame to see one those in a junkyard. |

Ya, I love and hate pick-n-pull. love the parts, hate seeing both a straight 70 Deluxe and a really straight '68 bug body and pan, both rust free, on the same day last year. ON a half-off day, no less. Got a lot of parts off the deluxe, the engine off the '68 - happy, but it kinda hurt at the same time....sigh....wish I had 5 acres and a big barn... _________________ - James

Why do you say that?
I bought my '78 from the original owner, it was complete down to every single detail, including the front rubber floor mat. _________________ 1978 Westfalia |

My former 78 Westfalia had rubber backed carpet up front with a trimmed edge (seen in photos below). Not certain it was OG, but the rear had the same carpet. I bought it from the OG owner. Not certain which is correct, but if someone knows for certain, it would be interesting.
And not to rain on redwagon's parade, I got a whole 73 Westfalia, no title, for $150 on Friday! Not a bad score! Pop top included, but it's cracked at the front.

The '78 should have originally had a carpet front mat. The original owner must have swapped out at some point, even at the dealer as he was buying the bus. |

I'm no bus expert, but the one I ransacked yesterday had both the rubber floormat and the capet floormat on top of it. It was the stock carpet with bound edges that matched the rest of the interior. Judging by the marks on the floor of the bus and the marks on the outside of the rubber mat, they had both been in there a long time. |

it probally depends if the bus was bought from a dedaler ship then went to westfalia or if it went right to westfalia and got finished there.
