I picked these up at Lowes for @ $2 a piece. They are 8" x 16" aluminum vents. I pop riveted them together to make one piece. The size is perfect to fit in the window opening. It is flexible enough to "bend" into place. I had to increase the radias on the top and bottom to fit the contour of the frame better. I closed the window to hold it in place using the outside of the latch to push it towards the frame. I think I'll end up painting it black so it doesn't look so obtrusive.

I don't recon they'll hold up in a hurricane but they should do fine in a rain shower Laughing

one of the better DIY and el cheapo projects ive seen since the libby bong, bravo. for me, it will give the dogs more ventilation but keep em safe in the van (maybe with a slight reinforcement in case that pesky squirrel comes around again) on top of keeping you dry.

When you are in Florida you become good at venting.

bigsteveob... now that's inspired!!! my highest compliments
I can't tell you how many times I've had to pull my screens during a rainy camping trip
at last... a simple, elegant and inexpensive solution
and to honest, I like them better than my 'stock' plastic screens

thanx for the excellent mod

I bought a nice pneumatic rivet gun @ 9 yrs ago when I restored my Airstream(a crap ton of rivets) along with a hand squeeze one. I think it was $30 bucks or so.....but cheap ones can be had for much less.

Serial Kombi has something similar but they want something like $100 for it. That is a great idea! Something I will definitely be doing. You can get a pop rivet tool from Harbor Freight for under $10.

Take those UPC stickers off from the inside. Have pride in your work man, don't stop before it is fully elegant.

Dang! they're too big for Westy windows. Gotta start searching for some smaller grills that fit.
