Anyone know if they do covers for Eurovans? I sent an email on Saturday but have nothing back yet. Can't see anything on the site but I can't see much difference between early ('92) EV and later 'gons, and since they are custom covers..... |

Hey those front seats look fantastic!
Did you do the rear seat as well?
If so, I'd love to see a pic of that. _________________ '86 Wolfy Westy Weekender

I still haven't done the rear because I haven't been able to make up my mind on how I want to do it at the same that I had the cash to make it happen. I've gone back and forth about talking to SewFine about doing the same seat across the entire westy bench, getting their deluxe option, going plain brown, or just using some other fabric that I find interesting. Right now I've got the seat covered with silk that I bought in Thailand and at times I've even considered just using that and seeing how long it lasts. One of these days I'll get around to making up my mind. _________________ 1986 2WD 2.1L WBX Vanagon Weekender

Levi, do you remember what color name this tan was?
Anyone else have pics to share?

I don't remember a name being associated with the color.
But I imagine if sewfine reps saw the picture they'd know. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Man, I love that green exterior combined with the brown panels. That looks awesome, and the brown seat cover looks nice as well. _________________

Thanks for all these pics! Very helpful. I've been considering the Sewfine upholstery for my 85 Vanagon but no idea what I want to do with it yet. The van is currently a tanish gold color inside and out but I'm thinking of ultimately changing the color scheme altogether.
From what I understand, these are a kit, correct? But they're more than just a seat cover? So, do they go over the old upholstery or do you remove the old upholstery prior to installing the Sewfine stuff?
Sorry if that's answered already somewhere. I've looked here and on Sewfine and I'm not 100% certain exactly how it works. _________________ ~Annie

They are new upholstery covers. You remove the old and install the new. They do not simply go over the existing material. You remove and replace. Takes a couple special tools or a shop can do it for you. People often repair or replace the foam at this point too. Adding an inch of memory foam is popular as well. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

Thanks for clarification. I thought that was it, but wanted to make sure before I decide which route to go. And replacing the foam sounds like a great idea as well. _________________ ~Annie

So I finally did something about my old, shredded, tan corduroy interior!
I wanted to recover my jumpseat, rear bench, and rear cushion.
Originally I was going to buy covers from Sewfine, as well as some new foam to bolster/stiffen up the cushions...
but after talking to a local interior/upholstery shop, I decided to keep the business local. I figured out that it cost about $100-150 more to have the shop do all the recovering work. I think overall they made the seats a little nicer than I would have done had I done it myself.
Anyway, very happy with the results!
Went with a tan tweed type fabric that should be very durable, constrasted with a tan vinyl that matches the OE VW tan on the sides/back.
Let me know if you're interested in the shop, they are excited about doing more vanagon projects! The pics don't really do justice to how nice it looks...

Wow! That does look really nice! I've been trying to decide what I want to do with mine. Got it narrowed down a bit, now to decide if I want to use SewFine or a local shop, like you. I'm really considering a local place. Now to find one and compare . . .
Anybody know of a good upholstery place in the Snohomish County or Skagit County area of Washington? _________________ ~Annie

Does anyone know --do you have to use vinyl/leather upholstery in order to install the heated seat option or can you use cloth? |

Looks very nice, and as I'm in the same boat, 86 Weekender with the shredder interior, I'd be very interested to know the cost and the name of the shop.
Hope thats not rude. PM is you would prefer.
Thanks, Paul.

Yes it's super-satisfying to have nice seats back there now! I imagine they are just like when you bought a vanagon new. I've been thinking that if I were to do it over I might pick a little darker tan/brown vinyl instead of the matching tan, but I'm still happy with it how it is.
The name of the shop I used is Jesus Auto Upholstery:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/jesus-auto-upholstery-el-cerrito
They are in El Cerrito, 10 minutes north of Berkeley...right off of San Pablo Ave across from the El Cerrito Plaza. It's a small shop, Jesus is the owner and a super nice guy. His son Junior was always there as well and said he's been learning the biz since he was a little boy.
Here's a little price comparison that I did of Sewfine vs. local...
Sewfine:
REAR FACING JUMP SEATS
A. THE BOX (behind driver’s seat)
All one color..........................................$99.95
Two color...............................................$129.95
REAR FULL BENCH
B. RAISED BOLSTERS
Standard Inserts...........................$239.95
REAR CARGO CUSHION COVERS
A. CABINET REAR......................................$159.95
Total for my project: $530
That total is for non-OEM fabrics (which is the same as what I got locally), all one color for the rear bench (which is NOT what I got locally), and they don't list a price for a bolstered jump seat, which is what I got...so that would be a bit more.
And then add in shipping costs.
I'm guessing the cost would be around $600 to my door.
Local:
I paid ~$700 out the door.
I think Sewfine does awesome work, and appreciate what they do for the community.
I also like that I supported a local small business.
