Hey guys, new to the forum here. Been over on the Ghia side for a few years now. I just bought this 1962 Kombi off the Samba from Mike Unland in Naples, FL. Very solid, new wheels & tires, CSP shifter and front discs, CB narrowed front beam, front and rear Wolfgang safaris, banjo wheel, and a fresh 1641. There are a few things that need to be done to it, but for the time being (next couple years), I'm just going to enjoy it pretty much as-is.

I've never owned a bus before, and had never even driven one until last night when I drove it home. So have a look, let me know your thoughts. I'm looking forward to tapping into your wisdom as time goes on.

Noob question but is that tinted primer or flattened paint on there? I really like the look.

Awesome aquirement! Im leaning twards that paint scheme, also feeling the pinstripe nectar and the Euro plate should set this Bus apart nicely. So yeah how was the drive.....did your spin home feature any raised eyebrows from standard commutors Laughing

The drive home was nerve-racking to say the least. I've never driven a bus before, so my first time was in the dark, in the cold, with a bus I was totally unfamiliar with. I really wasn't looking for reactions from fellow motorists just yet. I just wanted to get from A to B without tearing anything up.

The paint is single stage with a flattener in it. The pinstripes are well done and continue on to the dashboard. The only striping I don't care for is the one below the windshield, but that should be easily remedied. The interior is very sparse and simple. I'll get some more shots of that and post 'em up.

The 1641 was surprisingly peppy. My plan is to add some dual carbs in the future, but the single carb on it will do for now.

It will need an alignment. It's got a new CB beam and was all over the road, but there's a guy here in town that specializes in VW's and Porsches, so that will be handled in short order.

Overall I love this bus. I've had Ghias for the last 10 years, so this is quite a change, but a change I've been looking forward to for a while.

Mike was great to deal with, and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Otis for going to check it out for me. It's nice to have honest people to deal with.

Plans for now are to drive and enjoy as-is for the next couple years. I have plans for the paint and engine, but that's a while off. For now, I'm just going to have fun with my family in it.

i finished a bus project that had a cb 2" narrowed beam and it was all over the road until i got an alignment. the back was spot on the front toe was a little out but when the alignment shop finished the bus held the road great, i was actually really surprised as it was very slammed

nice looking bus you got there, BRM's always look sharp to me

One thing it was doing on the drive home that concerned me. When I would pull away from a stop, ease out on the clutch, and it would almost quit. I would have to rev the engine pretty high and ride the clutch a little to get away. Is that indicative of icing on the intake? I've never had one do that before.

could be the .009, maybe not warmed up. only advice i have is wait til spring to drive it. even on dry days, you'll hit water on the road that will have salt in it.

Thinking about changing it to an original 019 anyway (never cared for 009's).

Wait till Spring?! That's like telling my son he has to wait for spring to play with Christmas presents. Laughing ...sunny days, avoid the puddles... got it.
