So I finally plunked down some $ on a 68 westy. Its a bit rough around the edges but sound underneath for the most part. Some surface rust just starting to get bad and a bondo rear left rotty smashed corner. Oh and in front of the rt rear tire too. But I wanted a project an am stoked on making it look nice!
The insides have seen better days but its mostly there minus the fridge. Im gona get an upright Coleman for the moment till peaceful-warrior and I get a real box sent. I like the open space as well.

You finally made the plunge!! I'm glad to see that you choose a 68! Congratulations on your new family member, and welcome to the wonderful world of early bays!! My advice is to start stocking up on all the 68 only parts that are getting harder to find! |

Ah another Type 3 expert joins the "dark side". Congrats on the bus Notchboy, I've seen many of your posts over on the Type 3 thread and there is no doubt that bus "lucked out" by ending up in your hands. Can't wait to watch the resto. _________________ David W - from Chesterfield, VA / Jefferson SD / Stephens City, VA in that order.

Many thanks. Im pretty stoked for sure. I still cant get over how giddy Ive been over it all. Like I used to be about T3 discoveries. But before my T3 brothers get their pannies in a wad-Im still a T3 guy through and through. I just needed a solid change into uncharted territory I belive. And this bay adventure is sure it!
I bought the bus from Martin G up in Austin. I could tell he loved the bus as he had memories and good intentions wrapped up in it. I hope I make him proud of what Ill be doing to it. Watch this space Martin!
Worst of it is the back rt corner-but how many dont have some kind of tail rot. No worries as a clean replacement is in the works. I did some hands on inspecting-cleaning and dismanteling this weekend. No purple deamons poped out. After some rear welding on the corners the rest of the body will just need some filler and fiberglass patch.
Yep fiber patch. Mostly to the front floor where its not rotted out but "wholey". So I think a good clean-por15 & some fiber glass mesh will make it strong and solid. The lower dog legs will need some help too-but not much. It has suffred a bit of nose rot but its patchy. Most likley caused by Texas acidic dirt getting up in there. Ill clean that well, por it up and fiber patch as well. Other than that its mosly dent fixes and light coats of filler to make it real straight. I havnet got to sniff filler since I did the 62 Ant resto! Ahhhh memories.
Ive just got in the mail my acc fans-how cool are these! I cant wait to put them in. In the works are various parts and a tent. I realy want that tent as it makes for a whole family adventure in a stock og package.

And, you being you, you had to have an EARLY EARLY.

Very nice man... I was lookin at that one. I got a set of correct load rated tires for my 69 from a guy very close to where that bus was if you were interested in his contact info.
Excellent score, keep the pics coming _________________

Brian Ive decided I have to stay put. My girlfriend is going up to Seattle for xmas and Im here holding down the biz till she gets back. Id love to come up just to visit and ooogle your parts. What Id like to do is get together with you on the phone since we have several items possibly more to buy/sell. email your # and a good time to call.
Low light? Never occurred to me as it describes the height of the headlight. And since that never changed on a bay I wouldn't want to voluntarily show off how retarded I can be.
So what are the 68 only parts? _________________

Good question. Is there a "progressive refinements" for Bay Buses? If not, we should start one. Ratwell had some good info on Bays on his site that I recall. Link in the Bay FAQ sticky up top. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

There are refinements, though I don't know if you would call them progressive...
Two, right off the top of my head is the 68 only brake fluid reservoir, the ice box cabinet with out a sink, and if I am not mistaken I think the jumpseat is one year only. There are probably a few others, and I am certain I will find them as I put mine back together. _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
