I have a 1991 westy with 150K miles on original engine, heads were done by previous owner at 120K, engine well taken care of with regular maintenance. Compression is 140/150/140/150 with no isssues, auto trans.
Silly question but is there anyway to guess how long I can expect this engine to last.

Hate to bring this up to you, but do a search for rod bolt failure on the 2.1.

On the other hand, 150k on a 2.1 is getting close to the magic number for a rod bolt failure. The 1.9's did not have this weakness, but 2.1's, particularly if primarily highway-driven with a manual trans, have a nasty habit of ventilating the top of the case at right around 160k when the #1 or #3 rod has a bolt shear. |
That was taken from this thread...

Well that's alarming. Mine has a manual transmission, mostly highway miles, and a bit over 200K. Heads were replaced at 140K. |

Hang down your head Tom Dooley......
I am just joking.
I hope you get another 200000 trouble free miles. I hate to see or hear any engine pop. _________________ LG aka VisPacemPB, *The* party Pooper

An oil press measurement with engine well warmed up,at about 3k and idle would give u an idea of bearing conditions.A low press at idle should turn on the famous 'buzzer' unless the PO grounded the wire to this sender. |
