I replaced the coupling at the transmission with a urethane one and that took up alot of the issues. But there is still alot of play. I feel like I am reaching for the passenger floor board when shifting to third, it is rediculous. Ive got the stock stick on her still. What else should I replace?

Just a guess, but I would check the bushing on the shifter tube just behind the shifter. This bushing holds the tube up and when it wares the ratio grows until it disconnects. I had a Bug that when the bushing woreout it then wore the bracket and the tube fell into the floorpan.

You need to replace the shifter bushing which hangs from the top of the tunnel just behind your shifter. A few dollar part, but it is well worth replacing. Here are some instructions
