some dust shields are just held by the wheel. The holes in the shield are universal for your PCD
Never got any for the VW though so not real sure about what our options are. _________________ http://www.volksriders.org http://hecmalaysia.com |

Cliff is talking about the splash or dust shield which keeps road debris off the inside (back ) of the rotor/disc. On std spindles there are 3 10mm bolts holding the plates on. They increase brake safety (shorter stops) in wet or dusty areas. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

I had the same question in mind when I installed my dropped spindles. When I looked at the mods to the backing plate needed to clear the caliper and the repositioned spindle (much more metal behind the spindle now because it is raised relative to the ball joints) it didn't seem to offer that much more protection for the amount of work involved.
That and the fact that discs are less sensitive to water than drums are it didn't seem worth the effort. I've not had any problems with loss of brakes due to water, and I've been thru a few LARGE puddles during the seasonal typhoons. _________________ AshMan40
