Black, Silver or White with the red interior.

Switch out the interior to another color and though you already knocked it, Coral Red is a Kick A$$ color!! If your sample is Pink, you've got a bad representation.

Dave

Actually coral red is a lot like Porsche Orange which is quite nice only your right nobody can mix it properly and you end up with pink yuck

This 56 Aussie Oval also came with red interior. It's an Australian color though.

The truth of the matter is...There are many great oval colors. Black is just down right vintage. Strato always looks great on a stock or custom. Polar looks awesome in the sun with red interior. Coral always fits on an oval. Agave, reed green, and horizon blue are all look great too...

If you don't like red interior, what do you like? Pink or purple furry shag with dingle balls? Fellow oval owners with damn good looking red interiors, beware of opinions expressed by RHD Zwitter Baja owners...They are in a club of their own. Shocked Shocked

If you decide to keep a Red interior, that will help narrow down a color choice.

Black, Strato Silver, Diamond Green & Ultra Maroon seem to be the most popular colors.

With a Red interior: Black, Strato Silver or Polar Silver

Black , Strato and Polar I have already also been done unfortunatly (strato was best!!) ultra Maroon is probably more suited for a show car it could be very hard to touch up Sad
So far I really like the Iceland Green, Bamboo seems to be good and have a very period look with my Og interior but the limiting factor is that red interior
My plan is White walls fender skirts and the car is already lowered 2" and has a sunroof

I doubt anybody would have a decent pre 56 interior to trade for my red one arghh

Dove Blue (bus color) always looks good. It is classic and rich...If you don't mind straying from original Wink

Oh original is not even an isssue as long as it's 50's and VW Very Happy
Black and Red are classics I agree but I find Black hides the lines on a car

I'd be curious to see what Dove blue and red look like together? Horizon Blue is not bad but unfortunatly my friend snagged that on her 57! oh choices choices choices Confused

Shocked IMO I totally disagree. I have owned many vintage VW's as well as other vehicles painted in black, and I don't feel the same way.

If the body is perfect, and the prep is done well, you just can't beat a black painted car. IMHO of course Wink

L325 Mouse Grey (another bus color) is pretty cool. Unfortunately, the picture posted under technical does not do it justice. It's a great color and would look great with brick red interior. I think...

Please come and paint my 56' Ghia black. It came from the factory black and I plan on restoring it to black but I am scared as hell what it will look like in the end. I'm a perfectionist but that is not helping my anxiety about getting it right. It had a bit of a rough life early on, if you know what I mean. Wink

Laughing Laughing I hear you bro. I'm a bit anal retentive myself, but that job is best left for the professionals. You can't hide shitty prep on a dark painted car. lighter colors are more forgiving.

Black can be done at home you need a really good work space lots of prep and a whole lot of patience and thats just for a driver I prefer to paint regular colors just for that reason Black was the first paint job that turned out acceptable and not fantastic

An Ultramaroon car from the gallery:

One of the nicest colors out there and you don't see too many ( I have the remains of a 54 this color). But a red interior with that color? Confused

I too had the remains of one of these it looked like a metalic color so I avoiding this one red interior would work though
