This 56 Aussie Oval also came with red interior. It's an Australian color though.

Actually coral red is a lot like Porsche Orange which is quite nice only your right nobody can mix it properly and you end up with pink yuck

Okay, this is an interesting problem as mine is coral red and yes I seem to see others that are not really the same,

As someone with zero painting experience, I am assuming the formulas are available but the pigments and colorants that go in to the paint are not the same thus the results are not the same.

although it is by far one of the best beetle colors. As far as I know, there are no azure blue ovals. If I'm correct azure blue wasn't used after 52. But hey, if authenticity isn't really a concern, go for it. But not with that red interior.

My 56' oval, original color is Reed Green, tan interior, classic:

Its also hard to beat black when done well, but I'm partial to tan interiors as I think they appear more elegant than the brick red. Good luck in the decision!

Thought about that one too!! I have a dash in the shop with that color or whats left of it not enough to get a good match as it was repainted once
if I took that to the paint shop I might end up with a ford color ! Confused

Well the paint is a whole lot different today (more like paint from a different planet!) the other problem is when you get paint unless the supplier or painter is a vw nut or just amazing at matching that og paint in that little corner under the hood the finish will always be a little different.
I had the Strato car painted three times and it still wasn't right it was close but not 105%
This time around the ovals just for fun no show winner but a decent looking driver that looks welcome at any cruise night or show

Only in 53 there is a zwitter not far from me that used to be Azure we also parted some really rotten 53 ovals back in the 90's that were Azure Blue but up North here we got all kinds of different vw stuff

John (in2VWs) emailed me an Aussie paint list that I printed, but seem to have misplaced. I will try to locate it and get back to you. I know the owner of the car, and will ask him as well.

It is however an original paint Aussie CKD, and I have not seen another in that color.

You are 100% correct. Pigments have changed over the years as have the bases.

Easy fix,
Take a piece of the car, such as the glove box door, to a reputable auto paint store and have them color match it. Have them do the INSIDE of the door where the sun does not shine.
Mix a pint and see how they did.

To be helpful post the brand of paint and the formula on here to help out others who desire that color but don't have the original to copy.

X2 Have them put a little dab of paint on the glove box door just to be sure and if the guy is not into helping you out LEAVE find a different shop or you will end up with pink or in my case flouresent yellow on my 74 westy

Here you go Wink It very well could be Horizon Blue, but I think in Australia they used there own paint codes and color names. Maybe John (in2VWs) will chime in.

Chris, I hope you don't mind me posting pics of your car Cool
